2007 Fantasy Rookie Rankings

Now that the 2007 NFL Draft is complete, and while trades are still possible, here is how we rank the fantasy rookies for the future:

Top 10 Fantasy Rookies For The Future

  1. Adrian Peterson (MIN) - Could take a few games before the future-stud gets most of the carries, but Peterson should be showing signs of his elite potential down the stretch in 2007. He will likely be drafted in the top 8-12 next year, just like the stud rookies from last year are getting drafted high in this year’s draft.
  2. Marshawn Lynch (BUF) - Easily in the 2nd best situation behind Peterson. Expect the Lynch to go in the late-second to early third-round in most 2007 early drafts.
  3. Calvin Johnson (DET) - Johnson might not be as solid as Colston in his rookie year, as such rookie outings by WRs are rare, but he should enter his second year as a breakout guy. CJ is talented enough to make a fantasy impact down the stretch, though.
  4. Brandon Jackson (GB) - Compared to Frank Gore in style of play, Jackson could be a big sleeper in 2007 drafts.
  5. Chris Henry (TEN) - Henry might be a raw talent, but he sure is talented. Will his talent translate into the NFL? We will find out, but he is surely worth a top 5 pick in 2007 fantasy rookie drafts.
  6. Robert Meachem (NO) - This kid is gonna be good. While most would rank Ginn ahead of him, I think you will find Meachem as the second most NFL ready WR in the 2007 draft.
  7. Ted Ginn Jr. (MIA) - The speedster has a ton of talent, which is why the Dolphins drafted him so early, but it is not clear how well Ginn will do in his first couple of years in that struggling Miami offense.
  8. Michael Bush (OAK) - Now, Oakland isn’t the best situation for Bush, in fact, we thought (Smitty and myself both) that he would fall into Atlanta’s hands, but he is still talented enough to be ranked here. He could take over in Oakland soon enough. He is easily worth a top 10 pick in 2007 rookie drafts.
  9. JaMarcus Russell (OAK) - I like Russell a lot and believe he can become a top 10 fantasy QB at some point. His strong arm is perfect for Oakland. It may be two seasons before we see Russell helping fantasy owners, but he is worth selecting in the top ten in dynasty leagues.
  10. Kenny Irons (CIN) - Irons may be used a lot this year, at least more than people would expect, and with Rudi putting on more and more miles, Irons could be sitting in a pretty nice situation come a year or two from now.
