2007 NFL Strength of Schedule

Published: 07/02/2007 12:20 am by Ballgame in Fantasy Articles

Ok, so here is the Strength of Schedule for the 2007 Fantasy Football Season. This data is very useful for draft preparation, but note that defenses do change from year to year, whether it be through free agency, the NFL Draft, or even through coaching changes. Still, despite its inaccuracies, the data is very helpful when one is looking at two relatively equal players.

Running Back Observations

The data is telling us that Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor will once again find more than enough room to run on Sundays. The Jags have the easiest 2007 rushing schedule, as their 2007 opponents give up an average of 127.4 rushing yards per game. The data also tells us that Cadillac Williams’ possible bounce-back year has just become a little more likely, as he faces the 2nd easiest rushing schedule in 2007 (124.4 YPG). Both Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister have a good rushing schedule, as their average opponents give up close to 122 yards per game on the ground (7th easiest schedule in the NFL). Kansas City has the 14th easiest rushing schedule in the NFL for the 2007 fantasy season (117.2 YPG). While 14th isn’t anything amazing, it could be worse for those fearing Johnson will see a ton of eight-man fronts.

Not So Lucky: Steven Jackson has the 3rd hardest rushing schedule in 2007, Joseph Addai the 27th, Clinton Portis / Ladell Betts 28th and Marshawn Lynch 32nd.

Quarterback Observations

Donovan McNabb faces the 4th easiest passing schedule in 2007, while Rex Grossman should again be undervalued heading into this year even though he faces the 7th easiest passing schedule in the NFL. I’d also venture to say that Brett Favre will have a more productive season than most expect, as he has the 11th easiest passing schedule in the league heading into 2007. And of the stud QBs (Manning, Brees, Palmer and Brady), only Brees (#19) and Palmer (#22) face decent a passing schedules, while Brady and Manning have two of the tougher passing schedules this year.

Conclusion

Again, this data doesn’t mean certain guys won’t do well in 2007, and it doesn’t guarantee that others will explode. It is very useful if you mix in some general knowledge of team improvements, and it certainly helps you choose between two players if almost all other things are equal.
