Adrian Peterson’s Present & Future Value

As we head into week 7 of the 2007 fantasy football season, Ronnie Brown, Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson sit atop fantasy football’s elite rushers. Yep, those are the top 3 fantasy running backs in almost any scoring format through week 6.

Will it continue? Should Adrian Peterson be considered a top 3RB from week 7 on? Should you turn down offers that send you Larry Johnson, Frank Gore or Brian Westbrook for the rookie? What about his future value for all of you dynasty leaguers out there?

Let’s start with Peterson’s dynasty value. He is easily the second best, if not the best, fantasy player in all dynasty formats looking forward. We wouldn’t call you crazy at all if you rank A.D. #1 overall. “The next Tomlinson” is averaging 156.4 total yards, 1.0TDs and 6.3 yards-per-carry in his first 5 games as a pro. That is insane! Will it stop? I’m not not going to be the one to tell you it will, that’s for sure. If this kid stays healthy, he could very well end up being the best fantasy football player we will ever see.

And for those of you in redraft leagues, you better not trade Peterson for anyone but Tomlinson right now. That sounds nuts, I know, but he is just playing too well. The only runners worthy of such a redraft trade would be Ronnie Brown, Brian Westbrook or Frank Gore. Even Larry Johnson doesn’t deserve such a swap at this point, but L.J. is the only other runner near worthy if you ask me.
