Smitty’s Week 9 Studs & Duds
Smitty

STUD: Marshawn Lynch

RB
(vs. CIN)
110/15 yards, 2TDs
The Bengals are 28th in the league against the run, so this is a great match-up for Lynch and that Buffalo rushing attack. One thing that Cincy doesn’t give up a lot of is rushing TDs (5), but I believe that most of that has to do with Cincy giving up 18 passing TDs this year. Lynch is going to have a big day and his aggressive rushing style is going to land him in the end zone at least once, but I’m projecting twice.

DUD: DeShaun Foster / DeAngelo Williams

RB
(@TEN)
62 total rushing yards
Foster and that Tennessee rushing attack isn’t going anywhere on Sunday, as the Titans are first in the NFL against the run (64.3 yards per game). If you have a better option on Sunday, I’d advise that you consider using it.

STUD: Lee Evans

WR
(vs. CIN)
7 rec, 109 yards, 2TDs
Lee Evans and Losman are back! The duo hooked up in a major way in Week 8 and Losman is expected to start again in Week 9. Not only does Evans have his boy back, he also faces the 28th worst passing defense in the NFL. The Bengals give up 246 passing yards per game and have given up a huge 18 passing TDs in 7 games. Evans is a must-start in Week 9 and is back to WR2 status in my book.

DUD: Willis McGahee

RB
(@PIT)
60/12 yards
McGahee was fantastic in Week 8 against the Bills rushing the football 19 times for 114 yards and 1TD. Well, the Bills are bottom 10 in the league against the run, and the Steelers are not. McGahee is actually a player I’d look to trade now while his value is relatively high. Don’t sell low, but if you can swap him out for a Frank Gore… I’d do that in a second. Gore is one of my favorite players to trade for right now, as I still consider him a top 5RB looking forward… McGahee is still a solid low-end RB1, so again, do not sell low, but I’d test the trade waters just in case you can upgrade to a runner that is a little more end zone-friendly. Note that McGahee faces two bottom five rushing defenses after this week, so if you can’t land a Gore, wait and let him tear up those defenses… then try and sell.

Semi-Dud: Joseph Addai

RB
(vs. NE)
70/11 yards
It was tough to write this, as the Indy runner looked awesome in Week 8, but the Colts face the Patriots D on Sunday. New England is top 5 in the league against the run and they have allowed just 4 rushing touchdowns all year long. Don’t bench Addai unless you have great depth at the position, but counting on 100 yards rushing and a touch is a bit too much to expect against the Patriots. Take a look at other options if you’ve got them (Not sure about a move? Post it on our FFX Forums). Oh, and don’t assume that this game is going to be a flat-out airfest, as the Colts are #1 in the entire NFL against the pass and the Patriots are 5th. The two best QBs in the league each facing off against a top 5 defense… this will be one great battle!

Ask The Experts: Who Do I Start?

Ryan Grant (@KC) or LenDale White (vs. CAR) ?

ASK THE EXPERTS - A questioned asked by a FFX Forum user.
Smitty
LenDale White was an easy play last week against the Raiders, who give up over 140 yards per game on the ground — That said, White isn’t a lock for solid fantasy production on a weekly basis… he just isn’t. Tennessee faces the 19th worst rushing defense in Week 9, while Green Bay faces the 17th worst… so the match-ups are a wash… with the match-ups being even, I’m going with the runner in the better offense. A more productive offense leads to more opportunity and I think Grant will get the touches needed to be worthy of starting material in Week 9. Start Ryan Grant.
White is a pretty decent flex in most leagues, but because Tennessee likes to use more than one running back, I have to say that Grant looks like the safer play. Grant looked really good in Week 8, even though it was against the league’s worst rushing D. Still, Grant appears to be guaranteed the touches, so go with him. Start Ryan Grant.

Maurice Jones-Drew (@NO) or LaMont Jordan (vs. HOU) ?

ASK THE EXPERTS - A questioned asked by a FFX Forum user.
Smitty
LaMont Jordan faces Houston this week (20th in the league against the run) and Jones-Drew faces New Orleans (10th in the league against the run). The match-ups tell you to go LaMont, but because the Raiders rusher struggled so much last week, it is only natural to hesitate with this decision. What a tough call… Either runner could do extremely well (or bust) on any given Sunday, but I say stick with LaMont for one more week. The Saints are moving the ball well and Gray and the Jags could be passing their way back into this one on Sunday. Start LaMont Jordan.
Jordan looks awful. Jones-Drew isn’t a much better option this week, but I’m not sure Jordan is going to get more than 10-12 carries this week after last week’s pitiful performance. And even though Jones-Drew might not get the football much more than 10-12 times himself, with his break away ability sometimes 10-12 is all he needs. Start Maurice Jones-Drew.
