We have year-round 2008 Dynasty / Keeper Fantasy Rankings, but that is created from a staff average. Variation is nice and you should never use just one source for your fantasy analysis, as there is even variation between writers from the same Site. This is why we try and mix it up with our fantasy analysis, posting individual takes for everyone’s enjoyment. Here is my 2008 Top 25 Fantasy Football Keepers list.
* Based off of a standard scoring format, no PPR
Top 25 Fantasy Football Keepers 2008
- Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN
How can anyone argue against this? This guy is clearly the future of fantasy football.
- LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, SD
No one trains harder than him, which is why he always stays on the field. He has at least 1-2 more top 3 years left.
- Brian Westbrook, RB, PHI
He is one of the most consistent scorers in the game and has at least 1-2 great years left.
- Steven Jackson, RB, STL
His rushing style and injury history worry me a little, which is why I rank him #4 instead of #3, but he has to go in the top 4-5 no question.
- Tom Brady, QB, NE
Randy could leave this off-season, but I highly doubt it. With the best WR in the league still in NE next year, the NE quarterback should again throw for 40+ touchdowns.
- Joseph Addai, RB, IND
I like his situation a lot looking forward. He has great security in Indy.
- Ronnie Brown, RB, MIA
Would have been top 4 if not for his torn ACL in 2007 - Could have a slow start.
- Frank Gore, RB, SF
Injury risk and new OC Mike Martz COULD hold him back a little, but Martz might not kill his value like he did his RBs in Detroit. He may have his new Marshall Faulk.
- Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, JAC
He could be a top 5RB if he gets all the carries, but will he?
- Larry Johnson, RB, KC
Extremely overworked in 2006 and injured in 2007 - It’s tough to project anything higher than top 10, but that might make him a bargain in 2008 and beyond.
- Randy Moss, WR, NE
One could argue that he deserves a top 5-8 slot, but RBs are key in keeper leagues.
- Marshawn Lynch, RB, BUF
We all love this runner here at FFX. He runs so hard, but he needs some offensive support. Edwards could be the answer in Buffalo?
- Willie Parker, PIT, RB
The leg injury is a huge concern. Grant will move ahead of FWP once GB confirms what we already believe - that Grant is the team’s future rusher. Barber could also move ahead of FWP as well if Julius leaves DAL in ‘08 and Barber gets his big contract.
- Ryan Grant, RB, GB
Like I just mentioned, some support by the Packers organization and coaching staff will move this guy into my top 12 overall for 2008 fantasy football keepers.
- Peyton Manning, QB, IND
He should bounce-back next year and score closer to 40TDs.
- Tony Romo, QB, DAL
He has enough talent surrounding him to be a top 1-2QB looking forward.
- Marion Barber III, RB, DAL
The free agent should get a contract extension this off-season. If he does, and if the team sends Julius packing, Barber could climb into my top 12-14 overall.
- Reggie Bush, RB, NO
This might be the time to trade for him, as so many are giving up on him. This is a safe ranking here - he could outperform this spot by a lot. If this set of rankings was based off of a PPR format, Bush would be top 12 easy.
- Clinton Portis, RB, WAS
Injuries are always a concern. If he wasn’t so banged up all the time, he’d be a lot higher.
- Willis McGahee, RB, BAL
Again, injuries are a concern here, but this would be solid and safe value right here.
- Reggie Wayne, WR, IND
The transition from WR2 to WR1 finally occurred in 2007. Expect Wayne to only get better fantasy-wise.
- Andre Johnson, WR, HOU
He has the talent to be the #2WR behind Moss in 2008 and beyond.
- Steve Smith, WR, CAR
Injuries and a up and down offensive attack stand in his way, but he is very undervalued by a lot of fantasy owners.
- Chad Johnson, WR, CIN
Chad quietly rebounded back to stud-status by the end of the season last year. Palmer should have a much better season in 2008.
- Brandon Jacobs, RB, NYG
Injuries and Bradshaw are now standing in his way for having a long NFL career. He is probably one of the toughest RBs to rank in a keeper/dynasty format.
Just Missed The Cut
Braylon Edwards, Terrell Owens (even at his age), Michael Turner, Marques Colston, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Larry Fitzgerald, Carson Palmer and a few others, barely missed the top 25 cutoff. Listing a lot of WRs above those RBs up above just didn’t feel right. As you can see, I only have 5 WRs in that top 25 and only Randy Moss is in the top 20. I know the RB crew seems deep this year, but it really feels shaking once you get past guys like Marshawn Lynch, Marion Barber and Clinton Portis.
Mixing in this incoming 2008 rookie running back class will help with that, but it will only move some of the WRs down even further. The reason I say that is because I will probably slot Darren McFadden, and at least one more RB, inside that top 25 above once all the rookies find homes this April.
