We just released our Early 2008 Breakout Candidates Article, so now it is time to dig into the list of possible Bust Candidates for the upcoming 2008 fantasy football season.

WR Marvin Harrison | IND

Marvin Harrison missed 12 games last year due to a knee injury, and even when he finally returned to action in the Colts’ first playoff game, he only caught 2 passes for 27 yards - He didn’t look even close to the Harrison of old in the Divisional Playoff loss to the Chargers. If you plan to draft Harrison in 2008, you better only count on him as a WR3. If you own him in a dynasty or keeper league, try creatively packaging him with another player to get a much safer WR option heading into 2008. If you need ideas, get on our FFX Dynasty/Keeper Forums. One FFX user was able to trade Fred Taylor and Marvin Harrison for Santonio Holmes. While some may cautiously avoid package deals such as this one, we would jump all over this type of deal. Holmes is one of Fantasy Football Xtreme’s 2008 Breakout Candidates for the 2008 fantasy football season. Read more and find out why. Another FFX owner was able to trade Harrison and his #6 rookie pick for the #2 overall rookie pick. That’s how you package!

RB LenDale White | TEN

LenDale White had a very productive fantasy season in 2007, rushing for 1,110 yards and 7TDs. The problem? It took White 303 carries (3.7 avg.) to get that rushing total. Look, White has upside as a RB3-4, but in order to roster the rusher in 2008 redraft leagues you’re going to have to draft the kid as a RB3… that is way to costly if you ask us. The value in LenDale is destroyed when you take him as your RB2-3. Chris Henry should get more and more carries as he learns the RB position at the NFL level… keep that in mind as well. Our advice is to pass on White in early-to-middle rounds on draft day, and sell high if you own the back in dynasty/keeper leagues.

RB Fred Taylor | JAX

Fred Taylor will be 32 years old at the end of this month, so he is right at that age of decline for the NFL running back. Even though it seems like some running backs are making it through 32 before falling off the face of the earth fantasy-wise, Taylor’s injury history, and the rise of Maurice Jones-Drew, make it hard for us to believe in Taylor entering the 2008 fantasy season. Our advice is to sell high, as Taylor certainly has some trade appeal at the current moment. At least one fantasy owner in your league should overvalue the rusher. It may be possible to package the RB with something else in order to upgrade an aspect of your team. Try packaging Taylor and your late first-round rookie draft pick for a top 2-3 rookie selection. Get creative! If you need help getting started, get on our FFX Dynasty / Keeper Forums and get some trade advice and ideas.

Also Keep An Eye On:

RB Edgerrin James | AZ

For all of you dynasty/keeper league owners out there, be careful if you’re counting on Edgerrin James in 2008. There are already rumors flying around AZ that suggest that the Cards could release James this off-season. Ken Whisenhunt’s desire is to have an offense much like the one in Pittsburgh. For that to happen, the Cards are going to have to draft a rookie rusher this April, or bring in a between-the-tackles RB via free agency. Now, Edge could land as a starter somewhere else if he is in fact cut in the coming months, but he is definitely a rusher that we recommend selling high if at all possible. Not sure what you should be asking for? Get on our FFX Dynasty / Keeper Forums and get some trade advice!

QB Donovan McNabb | PHI

Keep an eye on McNabb this off-season. If the Eagles aren’t aggressive this off-season (with the 2008 NFL Draft and with free agency), it’s hard to imagine McNabb improving a whole lot from his 2007 numbers, which didn’t land him in the top 10 fantasy-wise. If the Eagles do make some aggressive moves this off-season, like McNabb is publicly asking for, consider buying/drafting McNabb on the cheap.
