2008 NFL Free Agency: Turner To Be A Top 10RB?

Michael Turner To Be A Top 10 Fantasy Running Back?

If you want Michael Turner on your dynasty roster in 2008, you better think fast, because “The Burner” is about to strike oil in the NFL contract business — And when he does, his fantasy value will go through the roof!

No Site believes in Turner more than Fantasy Football Xtreme, and no writer on staff expects more of him in 2008 than I do. Last year, before Reggie Bush’s decline in fantasy value, we traded Bush for Michael Turner and Roy Williams in our FFX Dynasty Expert League I. We also own Turner in both our other Dynasty Expert League and the Dirty Dozen Expert League (where we have Turner as a keeper at 13th-round value for two more years). As you can see, we don’t just talk the talk, we put the future of our Expert Leagues on the line in order to back-up what we preach.

The Proof Is In The Production

As we just stated on our Breaking News Wire, if you don’t yet believe in the speedster, just check out his Week 5 stats against Denver in 2007, where he ran for 147 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries. Not enough? How about his 5.5 career yards-per-carry average on 228 carries? Still not enough? How about this fact… Turner has long runs of 83, 74 and 73 with the Chargers, some of the longest runs in Chargers’ history.

Mark It down

Michael Turner is about to become a top 10RB for years and years to come! That’s right, you heard me. His insanely low third- to fourth-round ADP right now is about to jump into the second-round, but in my eyes the guy has first-round upside. For you redraft leaguers out there, draft him lower than the first-round, no question… use the ADPs to your advantage come draft-day. Again, for you dynasty leaguers out there, act now if you want him, because the 26 year-old runner has the speed, power, hands and fresh legs to excel in this league.

More Free Agents To Watch

Be sure that you watch this Derek Anderson situation closely, as we may learn a lot as the day moves along. Anderson was slapped with the highest possible tender on Thursday ($2.562 million for one-year), which forces a team to surrender a first- and third-round draft pick in order to steal the quarterback away from the Browns. That team would have agree to terms with Anderson as well, but it appears more than a few teams are interested in the signal-caller. Anderson had until 12:00 a.m. this morning to accept the Browns three-year offer of $20 million, $10 million of which was guaranteed. The Browns are reportedly ready to embrace the “Brady Quinn era” and allow any willing team to take Anderson away in exchange for the two draft picks. Keep in mind that that isn’t all that costly, considering that any willing team is most likely considering drafting a quarterback in the first-round anyway… a third-round pick isn’t all that much to add-on considering Anderson is already proven. Note: If Anderson leaves Cleveland, his value could go down, unless he lands with a team that is rich in the receiver department. Braylon Edwards would take a huge hit if Anderson in fact departed.

Marion Barber was also slapped with the highest possible tender by the Dallas Cowboys, thus paying him, like Anderson, $2.562 million on a one-year deal (if a team does not steal him away at the cost of surrendering both a first- and third-round draft picks). Barber probably won’t be taken away from his team, as this 2008 NFL Draft class is extremely rich at the running back position… teams will likely have the chance to land stud-like backs well into the 2nd- and 3rd-rounds of this year’s 2008 NFL Draft, which really hurts Barber’s free agency value.

Randy Moss is officially a free agent, and according to all reports available, the Patriots had no deal in place with Moss when 12:01 a.m. hit, so the receiver with 4.3 speed is available to the highest bidding team. Moss, who scored 23 TDs last season, has been linked to Dallas already, a move that would instantly make Tony Romo a first-round pick in most scoring formats. Now, I’m not saying that Dallas is a likely landing spot, but it was one of the rumors circulating on Thursday. This Moss situation will be extremely exciting to follow. Be sure you’re all over our FFX Forums throughout the day, as we’re sure to talk about this situation, and many more, all day long.

Free agent WR Bernard Berrian is expected to meet with the Vikings today (Friday) — The Titans are also thought to be one of the team’s most interested in the deep-threat.

Be sure to monitor our Breaking News Wire all day long, as we will certainly keep you posted on everything that goes on today in the microcosm of free agency.
