I’d Like A Double-Dose Of Chad Johnson, Please?

Published: 07/24/2008 2:39 am by Smitty in Fantasy Articles

Fantasy Football Xtreme was invited to participate in JunkyardJake.com’s Annual Expert League. This is a real redraft league, not a mock, and the line-up consists of: 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1DST. The scoring for this league basically standard (not PPR), but quarterback scoring is a bit higher, as QBs get 6 points per TD and 1 point per 20 yards.

Serving A Double-Doses Of Chad

Just yesterday, Chad Johnson (Cincinnati.com) gave fantasy worlds dozens of reasons to believe in him in 2008. Here is part of what he said about the upcoming NFL season: “I hope the fans understand it’s a business. I love them to death. Some of the things I’ve done for them throughout the years, everything I do is for them. I do apologize. I’m back. I’m going to give a double-dose of Chad.”

I honestly believe that Ocho Cinco has it in him to be a top three fantasy wide receiver in 2008 and he is finding his way onto my “must-have” list this season. So what did I do in this league to back all this up? I took him with a smile at No. 27 overall.

Our Two Trades

Trading To Land Turner

After passing on Michael Turner with our early third-round pick (which was hard for me to do), I decided to go attack a trade in order to move up. I was able to move our 4.10 up into the 3rd, but it cost a move down from the 5th to the 7th. Based on what was available in the 5th vs. the 7th, I felt we had to make this move — I’m extremely pleased we did. Michael Turner is one of the most underrated running backs in that RB2-RB3 range if you ask me. He has the upside of a top 8-10RB, yet he can be had in the third- to fourth-round in some leagues. Because his ceiling is so high, Turner would even have solid draft value in the early 20s. Don’t hesitate to make Turner your third overall player on draft day — We can’t believe he ended up being our fourth.

Trading Up To Snag Derek Anderson

With Derek Anderson still on the board when MonsterDraft.Com was on the clock, we had to dial in a trade offer! MonsterDraft countered and we accepted. We shipped off 7.03 and 7.10 to get back 6.01 and 10.01. Any draft pick calculator is going to tell you that we lost value in that swap, but that isn’t how we roll here at FFX. When we want a player, we go get them! Anderson is one of my favorite 2008 quarterbacks — He has top 3-4 upside written all over him. With weapons like Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow and Donte Stallworth, this guy is going to put up 34+ touchdowns this upcoming season — Maybe more. Like I said (on our league Site) to our league members when I hit the “draft” button, Anderson may not finish inside the top three QBs when all is said and done in ‘08, but he will have a cup of coffee with those guys and possibly hang with them for much of the year.

Our Roster Through Seven Rounds

This has to be one of the best teams we have fielded so far this year, and it is all due to some aggressive trading tactics. This team is loaded with many of our top “must-have” types entering ‘08, which includes Rashard Mendenhall (even as a rookie in a redraft league). Our squad is listed below…

Derek Anderson, Adrian Peterson, Michael Turner, Rashard Mendenhall, Braylon Edwards, Chad Johnson, Chester Taylor… [roster page]
