Week 1 has begun! As we approach Sunday, we thought we would dig into the 2008 Fantasy Football Stock Market one more time. Who’s Stock is on the Rise? Who’s Stock is on the Decline? This edition of the Fantasy Stock Market will be an interesting one, as the first player mentioned has already played their Week 1 outing.

Brandon Jacob | RB NYGBrandon Jacobs was extremely impressive on Thursday night against the Redskins, rushing the football 21 times for 116 yards (5.5). This is a player that we have been down on in the past, but we like him a lot in 2008. At 6-4, 264 pounds, he won’t hold-up if given 20+ carries per game, but one can still almost guarantee top 12-15RB numbers if Jacobs is handcuffed to both of his back-ups (Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw). I like the Giants rushing crew so much this season, I’d rather have them over Clinton Portis. You heard me! Even on 10-11 starts, Jacobs could throw down 1,100 rushing yards and 8-10 scores… and his primary back-up, whether it be Ward or Bradshaw, will fill in nicely when called upon. |

Selvin Young | RB DENThe last time Selvin Young was in our Fantasy Stock Market article, he was under the "on the rise" category, but in that write-up we suggested capitalizing on his rising stock. Young hasn’t even played his first game this season, yet coach Mike Shanahan is already talking about giving Andre Hall a decent amount of carries. We don’t anticipate Young starting even half the season. Some will call that blind speculation, but Shanahan history is on the side of my prediction. Ryan Torain should be back in Week 7 or 8 – Once the rookie returns, I fully expect Shanny to move him right into the starting line-up. Shanny loves his rookies and he reportedly loves Torain. |

Frank Gore | RB SFFrank Gore looked explosive in the preseason and we think that Mike Martz’s "New Marshall Faulk" is in for a big year. LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson are in a tier of their own, but Gore has the upside, and situation, needed to finish as this year’s third-best fantasy football running back. Gore is very capable of racking up 2,000 total yards and double-digit scores in 2008. If you can go get him (via trade) at the cost of a late first-round pick, do it. Get on our FFX Forums and toss out some trade ideas! |

Ryan Grant | RB GBIn my opinion, Ryan Grant has risk written all over him in 2008. Without Brett Favre, that Packers rushing attack is going to face a lot of eight-man fronts this season. Grant is talented, don’t get me wrong, and we have even recently suggested that he might be a solid buy-low candidate entering Week 2 (as he has the worst possible Week 1 match-up)… but you have to understand that I don’t believe in Aaron Rodgers, at least not this season. I don’t see that Green Bay offense moving the ball down the field effectively in 2008. Grant was a machine last season, and again I think he has a grip of talent, but Favre makes good players great, and his rushing attacks are almost always extremely productive. Grant will not see the rushing lanes this year that he saw last year. If you have Grant, again, be prepared for a rough Week 1 outing against the Vikes (the league’s best rushing defense). |
If you haven’t already, take a look at our Start Bench Advice for Week 1.
Brandon Jabobs put a lot of fear into DBs and Safeties around the league after the Landry pummeling. I hope Gore lives up to the expectations; not sure he will though. Ryan Grant was a “one hit wonder”; wouldn’t be surprised to see Brandon Jackson snagging some carries by week 3….
Lets not all get carried away here. It was one game. The season opener in fact, with the bowl champs at home for the first time since winning the biggest game. So yes of course momentum was on there side.
If this game was held in Washington it would be very different. Home feild does play dividents. CLinton Portis is still a top 10RB he shouldered the load and was the only bright spot for the offense.
Campbell looks aweful, almost Rex Grossman like. He had no grasp of the west coast offense and his throws were hurried and off the mark. Personally i’m a huge fan of Colt Brennan and his terrific pre-season but even I know that won’t happen (it should though).
Colt Brennan could rise fast in WAS.
