While fantasy worlds are still waiting for a final confirmation, which should come later today (Monday), it appears that Patriots QB Tom Brady is out for the season with a torn ACL.
YahooSports was one of the first to report the injury with any confidence and then a few more reports surfaced within minutes. Everything is pointing to Brady missing the remainder of the 2008 regular-season.
So what do you do if Brady was your starter? First, look at what quarterbacks are available in your league. Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart are a great combo to scoop up if both are available in your league, but also consider picking up J.T. O’Sullivan (especially in dynasty leagues). O’Sullivan is a talent on the rise, and while he still has a lot to prove, he is worth grabbing now while he is still sitting on waivers. Brady’s replacement, Matt Cassel, is also an option for all you Brady owners out there, as he stepped in and completed 13-of-18 passes for 152 yards and 1TD. We recommend that fantasy owners find a better option than Cassel, though, but having a target like Randy Moss almost forces him onto your watch list. Also consider picking up Ravens rookie Joe Flacco, or Falcons rookie Matt Ryan. Neither is the safest option, but both rookies are in solid situations and should continue to start in 2008.
If working the waiver wire isn’t going to land you a suitable replacement, your only other option is to trade. Get on our FFX Forums and toss out some trade ideas. Our fantasy football forum community is one of the fastest growing in the industry.
