Last Minute Thoughts: Week 3

Match-Ups Of The Week

Frank Gore (vs. DET)

The Lions rushing defense was destroyed in Week 1 by Michael Turner, who rushed for 220 yards and 2TDs. Given the fact that this Lions defense also got lambasted by Aaron Rodgers in Week 2, the diverse Frank Gore should have well over 140 total yards and 1-2 scores in this contest.

Michael Turner (vs. KC)

The Chiefs rushing defense just allowed Darren McFadden to run for 164 yards on 21 carries. The stud rusher also had a touchdown and a long run of 50 yards. Michael Turner should have a HUGE day against this defense in Week 3, so get your sports-bar-touchdown-dance ready.

Marshawn Lynch (vs. OAK)

Oakland has almost no chance of containing Marshawn Lynch in Week 3. That Oakland defense is awful, and if Buffalo gets out to an early lead like we expect, the Bills will be running the football a ton! Expect 120+ rushing yards and 1-2TDs in this game. Buffalo is a tough football team this year!

Buy Them Low Before It’s Too Late

Maurice Jones-Drew (@IND)

This will be the last week one can buy Maurice Jones-Drew at the cost of an extremely low-end RB2 (or flex-option). The team has made it a point that they will be using MJD a ton in Week 3 against that Colts rushing defense, which currently ranks in the bottom five teams in the league against the run (181 rushing yards per game).

Braylon Edwards (@BAL)

Like MJD, it may be tough to acquire Braylon Edwards soon via trade. There is a chance that he will be even cheaper after his Week 3 match-up against Baltimore, but then again, one has to keep in mind that Edwards averages over 90 yards per game against the Ravens. He has also scored a touchdown in three of his four previous meetings with Baltimore. If it’s me, I attack him now — As I mention in the "Ask The Experts" section to the right, if drafting now for Week 3-16, Edwards is inside my top 5WRs looking forward.

Ask The Experts

Question

"I have Frank Gore and Jamal Lewis at running back but I need to upgrade the J. Lewis part. We start 2RBs. I have [Plaxico] Burress and [Braylon] Edwards at WR and we only start two. I also have Marques Colston. Should I trade Colston for a RB and if so who? Or should I trade Edwards since he is playing so bad? Thanks in advance."
- Jason G, Minnesota

Answer

Jason, I do not recommend that you trade Braylon Edwards – He will turn it around. If drafting today, I actually still have Edwards inside my top 5WRs looking forward. I don’t know what you have as far as depth, but given you only start 2RBs and 2WRs, you can probably make some good package moves and still reload your bench with quality free agent grabs… so, here is what I do. I trade Jamal Lewis and Marques Colston for one better running back. Go after Maurice Jones-Drew or Michael Turner before they unload this week against the Chiefs and Colts. I’m not a big believer in Jamal this year, but if you can’t land the right kind of two-for-one type of deal before this Sunday, waiting until next week isn’t the worst thing in the world because Colston will be one week closer to coming back — That might give him more trade value. Still, do know that if you want Turner or MJD, you will have to act now… both should go off this week and those are the two I recommend targeting given your situation.
