1. Michael Crabtree | #5 | Texas TechHeight: 6-1, Weight: 215 | Date of Birth: 9/14/87
Fantasy: [3/3/09] Michael Crabtree is now expected to undergo foot surgery on Wednesday, which is the smart thing to do. Crabtree was set to have surgery after his pro day, but now the soon-to-be stud will get the surgery out of the way, which will have him back on the field in 6-10 weeks (in May). Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson and Roddy White didn’t run the forty at their combines, and a stud like Anquan Boldin actually ran a 4.72 at his… Crabtree doesn’t need to run a fast forty in order to go inside the top 10 overall on draft day. Even if he ran a slow time, it wouldn’t matter. Everyone knows that this kid is the next big thing at the wide receiver position. At 6-1, 215 lbs, Michael Crabtree has that ideal size for the NFL. He has tremendous hands and knows how to get open. In 2008, the receiver caught at least eight passes in eight of his 12 games played. Crabtree had six multiple touchdown games in 2008, two of which were 3TD performances.. he also had 10 straight games last year with at least one score. This guys is the real deal! Crabtree is VERY capable of being an elite top 5-10 fantasy wide receiver of the future. Yes, if all goes well with his surgery and recovery, he is quite possibly as capable as both Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. Even if Crabtree doesn’t excel at the forty, he should go in the top ten overall even with the injury. Keep in mind that Steve Smith ran a 4.41, Reggie Wayne ran a 4.45, Brandon Marshall ran a 4.52, Anquan Boldin ran a 472 and Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson and Roddy White all did not participate. Interesting facts for those suggesting that a slow time, or a DNP, is a good predicting factor. Jeremy Maclin | #9 | MissouriHeight: 6-0, Weight: 198 | Date of Birth: 8/26/88
Fantasy: [3/21/09] Smooth. That’s the one word that describes this kid best. Maclin is the real deal and his return skills are going help raise his stock as we near April’s 2009 NFL Draft. He is a fantastic returner 7 100-yard games. We’ve heard a few scouts question his speed and experience as an outside receiver, but when you score 11 non-receiving touchdowns in two seasons and average 91 receptions, 1,157 receiving yards and 11TDs in two college seasons, it’s safe to say that player is both fast (enough) and experienced (enough). Keep an eye on this guy’s draft value in the coming weeks and months. Percy Harvin | #1 | FloridaHeight: 5-11, Weight: 195 | Date of Birth: 5/28/88
Fantasy: [3/3/09] Smaller players like Donnie Avery, Eddie Royal and DeSean Jackson are proof that the little guy can make it in the NFL at the receiver position. Harvin has battled foot/ankle injuries in the past, but he is a tough little guy and did we mention he is insanely quick? Harvin’s receiving stats aren’t extremely impressive, but that’s because he is a dynamic Reggie Bush type. The stats you won’t see above are Harvin’s 764 rushing yards in 2007 and his 659 rushing yards in 2008. He also rushed for 6 scores in 2007 and 10 in 2008. So in 2008 alone, the little guy 1,303 total yards, 17TDs and had 70 receptions. If an NFL team drafts this guy with the intention of using him early and often, we believe Harvin could end up being a successful version of Reggie Bush. Darrius Heyward-Bey | #8 | MarylandHeight: 6-2, Weight: 206 | Date of Birth: 2/26/87
Fantasy: [2/23/09] Darrius Heyward-Bey has a lot of talent, but looks a bit raw and he has never had an 800-yard season or a season with more than five receiving touchdowns. That doesn’t mean that he can’t develop. Heward-Bey had one of the most impressive overall Combine workouts and he may have locked himself into first-round value. Heyward-Bey will either be a star or a bust — It’s up to him! Player Comparison: Roy Williams Forty Time: 4.30 Combine time | View Times Video Footage: Clip 1 | Clip 2 5. Hakeem Nicks | #88 | N. CarolinaHeight: 6-1, Weight: 212 | Date of Birth: 1/14/88
Fantasy: [2/23/09] Hakeem Nicks had a handful of big games in 2008, his best outing being in the Meineke Car Care Bowl (8 receptions for 217 yards and 3TDs). Many question his speed, but Nicks really put that concern to rest with his 4.49 forty time at the NFL Combine. That’s an impressive time for Nicks, who already has so much upside in other areas of his game. Nicks is looking like a first-round talent in 2009. Watch this kid rise on everyone’s draft board.
