We’re excited to announce that we have decided to added IDP (Individual Defensive Players) content to our 2009 Fantasy Football Player Spotlights feature. More and more fantasy football leagues are turning to IDP formats, so we have decided to incorporate IDP into our Spotlights.
IDP leagues are leagues that draft individual defensive players. Basically, if you don’t compete in IDP leagues, you probably still draft a defense, right? But you don’t draft actual players, like you do with the offensive skill positions (like QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs)… well, IDP leaguers don’t draft a DST (defensive/special teams)… they actually draft defensive athletes just like non-IDP leaguers draft running backs. While each league’s starting requirements vary, most leagues start 2-3 CBs, 2-3 DLs and 2-3 LBs.
Our Fantasy Football Player Spotlights feature is basically our “On-The-Rise” and “On-The-Decline” section… but it’s actually more than that. This is also the section of the Site where we advise fantasy owners to sell-high and buy-low. If you were a Fantasy Football Xtreme Subscriber last season, this is where you were alerted to draft Michael Turner in EVERY SINGLE league you were in! If you didn’t have access to our Player Spotlights last season, yea, you missed that one!
So, back on point… this section of Player Spotlights now has IDP content mixed in. Here is an example of a recently added IDP Player Spotlight:
LB Angelo Crowell 03-19 10:04 pm by Tavaner
Angelo Crowell was on IR last year after undergoing a procedure for chondromalacia (runner’s knee), which is strange, as the original timetable had him out for 4-6 weeks. Regardless, from 2005-2007 he has produced 125, 95 and 140 total tackles over those years. He has played both SLB and WLB, and with the Buccaneers needing both, I’d be very surprised if he isn’t in their starting line-up to begin the season. From a fantasy perspective, start off by treating him as a LB3 with the upside for more.
