Below we have our consensus 2009 Fantasy Football Dynasty Rookie Rankings. This top 25 rookie list has the staff/contributor average in the far right column, but each writer’s rankings can be seen in their corresponding column. Players that were not ranked by a staffer were given 26 points. Also, these are dynasty rankings of the 2009 rookie class, not just rankings for the upcoming season. Enjoy and note that we will keep this updated as much as possible heading into August.

Most of you regulars here at FFX know that one of my favorite rookie running backs this upcoming season is Jets rusher Shonn Greene, but if we’re talking extreme bargain, I’m rolling with Bernard Scott. The guy has “trouble” written all over him, as he played for four colleges and was reportedly arrested five times… but at the cost of a late second-round pick, or even early third-round pick, who cares? He is all upside at that point in a draft and the upside is huge. Scott racked up 5,712 rush/rec yards and 73TDs in his final two college seasons and he finished his college career with 17 consecutive 100-yard outings. He also went over the 200-yard mark in four of his final six college outings, with 292 yards and 7TDs in just one game. Impressed? You should be — Watch the footage below for more evidence of his upside:
The rookie with the best value right now in my eyes is Percy Harvin; this kid is a special talent and has playmaker written all over him. On top of that, he finds himself in a very good situation with the Vikings – not a lot of depth at WR and a good running attack led by Adrian Peterson which will force defenses to stay honest. Right now Harvin is going in the 10-12 range in most rookie drafts and that is a flat out steal in my eyes. I have a feeling he will be creeping up the rankings over the summer and we’ll see him in that 6-8 range come July/August. If you play in PPR, this should be the guy you target right after that first wave of RBs are off the board – don’t be afraid to trade up to land him.
James Davis has really nice value right now. I’ve seen him go as early as 1.08, but I’ve also seen him drop all the way into the third-round in some early 2009 rookie drafts. My guess is that he will be a solid second-round pick come August, but I urge fantasy owners to consider grabbing him at the end of the first-round. He is worth the risk when all of the studs are off the board, because all you’re really doing is taking stabs in the dark once you hit the second-round. With Jamal Lewis being the lead back in front of him, I really believe it is only a matter of time before Davis gets into that Cleveland starting line-up. Don’t over look this kid!
If you have a super bargain recommendation, fire away!
Excellent job. I love the way the blog was layed out, and it’s an awesome job on the prospects!
Thanks. Who is your top sleeper/bargain, Scorpion?
Great article, I agreed with the rankings and I like that they were composite scores so each guy had some input.
My best sleeper/bargain at this point(to go against the grain of who you guys picked) would be Arian Foster…This guy was a beast at Tennessee and the Houston coaches have already been speaking highly of him, I think they still intend on a big back getting some carries and he’s talented enough to step into that Zone Blocking Scheme and have an early impact.
He wasn’t drafted so you can probably get him late 3rd/early 4th, and that’s well worth the risk considering what’s available at that point.
Sleeper? Massaquoi at the bottom of the list is about as good as it gets. Once Edwards gets traded, he should be the top reciever on this team. Sleeper not on this list that I’m targeting is WR-D.Byrd(SD). If things don’t work out for G.Johnson, the Chargers may have to utilize Byrd with P.Rivers, but it’s unclear if he can become anything more than a part-time down feild threat. I could see him replacing someone like C.Chambers though.

actually robiskie would be #1
Great additions! I do like Massaquoi a lot more if Edwards gets dealt. Foster is a good sleeper as well. Like I said, great additions. Keep ‘em coming!
You’re right, Robiskie would be #1, slept on that one.
I am going to go deep sleeper with Ramses Barden NYG WR. I saw him on a college football skills competition and at 6′6″ he is a red zone threat waiting to happen. He killed the jugs machine and was quick in and out of breaks like a vet. Shane Nelson BUF TE has a real opportunity to make a big impact also.
What about Glen Coffee? That Bernard Scott kid does look sweet, thanks for the info. Do you also think Frank Summers wins goalline job in Pitt? We do a 2 round 24 selection rookie draft in July before training camps begin. We keep the guys on our roster for 3 seasons before they are eligible for the regular draft in our league, so pretty important to get it right. I’m high on Ramses Barden as well, good to see y’all agree.
Coffee has upside, sure. Summers as well, but it’s tough to project too much for him at this point. He has some work to do, but the upside might be there.
Scott, Dillard, James Davis… those are my later must-have guys in rookie drafts.
I’d be interested in seeing the updated version of this article to see how things have changed since May….great stuff. Any chance of reposting with the updated rankings? thanks for all of the info
Meantime. Not here is a recent update to the RB rankings.
