Fourth & 1 Debate: Buy-Low and Sell-High (Week 4)

Published: 10/02/2009 5:46 pm by Smitty in Fantasy Articles

We have been asked to be a part of a weekly fantasy football roundtable debate, where a group of fantasy Sites attack the same question and we interlink the content within each of our Sites. This week the article can be found on Top-Fantasy-Football.com. The Weekly Article is called “Fourth & 1 Debate” and it will feature a different question each and every week. Each week, one Site will host the debate, but all of the Sites involved will announce the release of the article and provide the link to the debate. One of the weeks Fantasy Football Xtreme will host the debate. This will be a weekly feature.

The Sites involved include: FantasyFootballXtreme, rotoprofessor.com, JunkyardJake.com, lesterslegends.com, fantasypros911.com, kffl.com, top-fantasy-football.com, footballjabber.com

The question for debate this week has to do with buying low and selling high. Enjoy!

Fourth & 1 Debate:

What Are Your Top Buy-Low / Sell-High Candidates Headed Into Week 4?

My top two buy-low candidates right now have to be Tom Brady and Ray Rice. Brady will soon get back to tossing 2-3TDs weekly and Ray Rice is just far too cheap to pass up on given his upside. There is major risk attached to Rice’s name heading into Week 4, but that’s why he is a great buy-low candidate and not a “guaranteed stud” candidate. Rice has top 10 fantasy RB upside if starting. It could take a couple weeks for Rice to get starter-type touches in Baltimore, but I firmly believe that Rice will eventually be the main man.

As for my sell-high candidates, I have to go with Cedric Benson and Kevin Smith. I think Benson’s value is at an all-time high and fantasy owners should strongly consider taking a lateral step into a safer player. Same goes for Smith, who faces CHI, PIT, MIN, BAL and AZ in five of his remaining 12 games in 2009. Smith, who could actually miss Week 4 against the Bears due to a shoulder injury, also plays in an offensive attack that could be passing their way back into many outings this season, which is bad for that Lions’ rushing attack… Sell-high and don’t look back….. I appreciate the multiple and various perspectives and the collaboration that goes into a discussion like this. It’s extremely valuable for the casual owner like me who is looking for some quick advice/perspective without having to scour the usual suspects every week. Great idea.

One thought: I’m sure that coordinating so many schedules can be a challenge but it would be a little more helpful if an article like this (buy-low/sell-high) was released earlier in the week. Many leagues have a 2 day waiting period on trades so owners are less likely to make a trade going into the weekend as they are coming out. For example, no one’s probably going to trade Forte the day before a Lions game but they may have done it on Monday.

Just a thought. Thanks for making your site such a great resource.

We actually have decided to release this earlier. It would tough the first couple weeks getting it all together in time, given the different sties involved, but moving forward it should be released earlier. Thanks for the thought and we’re one step ahead of ya.
