Cecil Shorts (WR)

Jaguars have officially placed WR Cecil Shorts (concussion) on season-ending injured reserve, after Shorts sustained his second concussion within three weeks. This is awful news for Shorts believers like myself. FFX’s own George Rev just wrote a solid spotlight on Shorts last week, and I was right there with him in terms of being a believer in this kid for the long haul. Well, that may have just changed. Don’t get me wrong, anyone can be a solid draft pick if the value is right, so really, we have to wait and see where Shorts goes in early 2013 fantasy football drafts before we start calling him a player to avoid next year, but concussions are no joke, and they don’t tend to lessen in occurrence, they tend to happen more frequently as they start piling up. One is often more susceptible to concussions the more they have them (think Jahvid Best). Again, before we overreact about his value heading into 2013, let’s see where his ADP starts falling, but for now, I would start considering him a potential risk for next season, and Justin Blackmon owners could — I repeat, ‘could’ — emerge a winner from all of this come Week 2013’s end.
