Sean Renfree (QB)

Sean Renfree

Sean Renfree was a three year starter for Duke. He was injured in his last game, the Belk Bowl, when his arm was hit as he threw a pass resulting in a torn right pectoralis major (chest) muscle. This injury will keep him from throwing prior to the draft though he did receive an invite to the combine. Prior to the season he was viewed as a mid round pick.

On the plus side is size; accuracy; footwork; leadership; a quick release; intelligence and consistency. He’ll have to work on looking off DBs; going through progressions; taking checkdowns when his first few options are not open. He has above average arm strength and can make all the NFL throws in addition to having had the good fortune to be coached by David Cutcliffe (QB guru) who also worked with Peyton and Eli Manning. His coach has praised his work ethic which speaks volumes and Mel Kiper sees him as a potential sleeper in this years draft comparing him to Matt Hasselbeck and Matt Schaub.

He may or may not be drafted due to his injury but the feeling here is that someone will take a look at his tape, factor in his coach for five seasons and pick him up later in the draft.
