Vick Ballard (RB)

The word “workhorse” to describe a running back to me is fantasy gold. That’s just the word that the Indianapolis Star used when referring Vick Ballard’s future with the Colts. Ballard certainly was a workhorse towards the end of the year, averaging 17 carries over the last 11 games, only dipping below double digit carries once. It never hurts when you’re head coach has a man crush on you, as it appears Coach Pagano does. At the NFL owners meeting Chuck Pagano told reporters “Just a tough, hard-nose, between the tackles guy, that’s always going to get positive yards. He has the ability to make people miss in the open field. He’s going to grind out 100 yards when you hand him the ball. He’s one of those guys that as the game gets longer, the more carries he has, the better he gets.”

Entering next season it appears Ballard will be the starter, sharing slight carries with Donald Brown. Ballard will almost certainly be undervalued, and could be a sneaky late pick. He could plausibly be used as a RB2 as the season plays out, as opposing team will have their sights primarily set on Andrew Luck. Keep your eye on the 2nd year back out of Mississippi State.
