It has not been a secret that the Buffalo Bills would select a quarterback in this draft; who they drafted was! In a stunning move the Bills selected the first quarterback in the NFL Draft – E.J. Manuel with the No. 16 pick! The best news for Manuel and Bills fans is that Manuel will not be forced to step in and start right away as he will have some time to learn behind Kevin Kolb. That is not to say he won’t win the starting gig outright in training camp as Ryan Tannehill did last year but Manuel won’t have to be thrown to the wolves right off the bat. There won’t be any pressure to put Manuel on the field right away, which could make his career. He can work on his mechanics, learn the offense and and learn how to read NFL defenses. OTA’s will be important as a measure of his development up until the beginning of training camp.

E.J. Manuel is a mobile quarterback with a quick release, exceptional arm strength and a strong work ethic. He is going to be coached by Doug Marrone, who helped develop Drew Brees when Marone directed the Saints offense for three years and the Saints finished as a top five offense in each season. This pairing has a lot of upside and Manuel’s length to impact is shortened quite a bit!

In dynasty leagues Manuel’s has at least second round value because of his mobility, landing spot and coach. In a few years he should be ready to step in and start for you. If you have an aging quarterback the investment will be well worth it. Manuel has no redraft value even if he starts.
