Cincinnati

Giovani Bernard became the first running back off the board when the Cincinnati Bengals selected him with the 37th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. For now Bernard will have a complimentary role with the Bengals but he has the look of the running back of the future for the Bengals. He may follow a similar path to C.J. Spiller as he moves into the starting rotation, though it should not take as long!

The Bengals gave Andy Dalton another weapon and are heavily investing in his taking the next step. Giovani Bernard can catch the ball out of the backfield and shows quickness, acceleration and lateral mobility on his runs. Expect him to get more work as the season progresses.

He has to be considered a first round pick in dynasty drafts though owners will have to be patient. In leagues that include return yardage bump him up a bit as he does have that potential, though we don’t know-how he’ll be used. His touches should grow each year and by year three if not sooner he should be the lead back for the Bengals. In redraft leagues Bernard is not more than a RB4/5 in ppr leagues.
