Ahmad Bradshaw is the premier free agent running back still on the market, and his addition to any NFL team is going to have serious fantasy implications. Yesterday Bradshaw visited the Indianapolis Colts. Initially there was a lot of buzz that a signing was imminent, though now it seems that there is some kind of a stumbling block to finalizing a contract. Regardless of the reasons for the holdup, Bradshaw is still a talented RB2 in fantasy.

Ahmad Bradshaw is a solid pass receiver who can pick up the blitz and produce between the tackles or outside. He would immediately upgrade the Colt offense and would likely emerge as the lead back out of training camp. In this west coast offense his pass catching and yac ability would be highlighted. When you include Andrew Luck’s ability to audible and the need for defenses to respect his arm the holes Bradshaw could see would make him every bit as dangerous as he was for the Giants. He could see even more opportunities with the Colts than he did with the Giants!

If Bradshaw does sign with the Colts Vic Ballard’s fantasy value takes a huge hit. Ballard is currently projected as a high end RB3 in redraft leagues producing a combined 1100 yards. Were Bradshaw to sign with the Colts Ballard would do well to produce 600 total yards. With the Colts Bradshaw could rush for 1000 yards, add another 30/250 receiving, with around 6/7 touchdowns. Bradshaw would also make the Colt passing game more effective as teams would have to respect the threat that he is when running the ball.

While injuries have hampered him in the past and he missed four games in 2011 and two games in 2012 Bradshaw has proven he has the talent to produce. He’ll play with, and through injuries and while setting a weekly lineup with Bradshaw on your roster may be a bit frustrating, he’s a better option than many running backs drafted ahead of him.

Currently Ahmad Bradshaw is being drafted as an RB4 in the late part of the 10th round in redraft leagues. If he signed with the Colts he’ll immediately become a high end RB3 with RB2 upside.
