Ahmad Bradshaw has signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

This is great news for Indianapolis fans…but not so much for fantasy football owners. Bradshaw is in the prime of his career, and coming off a 1,000 yard season, should be a starter somewhere. Unfortunately, Bradshaw found his way into a packed Indianapolis backfield with Vick Ballard, Donald Brown, and Delone Carter. Ballard is the early favorite to win the starting job, and people are suggesting that Bradshaw will serve as a 3rd down/change of pace back. However you can’t count Ahmad Bradshaw out of the starting role just yet, with his fiery attitude and supremely competitive nature, Bradshaw will earn his fair share of carries. I can’t see Bradshaw being a backup with his personality, and I believe he’ll overtake Ballard contrary to most people’s opinion.

Ballard averaged 3.9 a carry last year in his rookie campaign. Bradshaw over his career averages 4.6, and on his lowest year averaged the same as Ballard. Bradshaw is 27 years old, and isn’t slowing down yet. He’s a much more versatile player out of the backfield then Ballard, and you know no one (probably in the NFL) is going to outwork Bradshaw.

Potential problems for Ahmad Bradshaw are there, he’s still in a walking boot from off season foot surgery, which could leave him behind the learning curve in his new offence. If Bradshaw can recover quickly, and get enough practice in, he’ll log another productive fantasy season. The risk with him is higher than ever, but I believe in the right situation he could fill in nicely as a flex play in 2013.
