Keenan Allen got some work in with the first team on the last day of the Chargers mandatory minicamp, and he hasn’t been shy about stating his desire to start this season. The third round pick is finally healthy after a slow recovery from a torn left PCL, and missing some time due to a late graduation date. If other minicamp reports are accurate, the Chargers got a steal.

Wide receiver happens to be one of the deeper roster positions for the Chargers so Allen’s work during training camp and preseason games will give us a clearer picture of what redraft potential he has in fantasy. What also stands out are comments from the head coach Mike McCoy that Allen needed to know all the receiver positions because of audibles that Phillip Rivers might call. This comment suggests that Keenan Allen could need some time to learn those responsibilities and be a late round flyer in a redraft league or a waiver wire addition later during the season.

Dynasty owners have to be heartened by the news that Keenan Allen is healthy and showing the smooth routes and acceleration that caused scouts to compare him to Reggie Wayne. For the rest of the story, we’ll have to wait until August. In the meantime, we will monitor the news and keep you informed.
