Stevan Ridley (RB)

Stevan Ridley was described as “looking like a house” when he returned to camp. Now that’s in a good way. Ridley put on a sizable amount of muscle over the off season, and I’m fully expecting him to improve on last year’s numbers.

Shane Vareen (probably his best backup) has been seeing time at WR in practice. Danny Woodhead has departed for San Diego. LeGarrette Blount is said to be #5 on the depth chart, and I feel like his days of seeing the field are about over. Leon Washington is more of a receiving threat, and I don’t think he’ll cut into Ridley’s carries much. Brandon Bolden is the only other RB in New England that concerns me. However I still believe Ridley will be the man, and receive the boatload of carries.

The Patriots ranked 2nd in the league in carries last year, and 1st in rushing touchdowns. This stat is eye opening to me, as you wouldn’t expect those numbers from a Tom Brady led team. Expect the Patriots to keep rushing the ball, especially after the release of Aaron Hernandez, and the lingering injuries to Gronk and Amendola.

Ridley should be taken no later than the 2nd round, and should be relied on week in, week out as a number 1 starting RB.
