If nothing else Danario Alexander is resilient and that will serve him well as he deals with a torn ACL in his right knee. This will probably mean season ending reconstructive surgery for the hard luck fourth year wide receiver. While it is fair to assume that he will try to play again, after major surgeries on both knees, quality of life has to be considered and his future is in doubt.

San Diego now has Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown as their potential starting wide receivers with Eddie Royal currently manning the slot position. Talented rookie Keenan Allen will get a longer look and more reps but according to Head Coach Mike McCoy, Allen has a “ways to go”. Also in the mix is Robert Meachem who had already been measured and fitted with a seemingly apropos “bust” label.

With the loss of Danario Alexander many in fantasy will be quick to downgrade Philip Rivers. While understandable FFX members want to keep in mind that the Charger coaches were changing from the vertical offense of past years, which Danario Alexander fit perfectly, into a quicker hitting, shorter passing offense emphasizing getting the ball out quickly to the open receiver. That type of offense might not have allowed Alexander the time to get downfield. The players who could thrive in this new offense are Vincent Brown and Antonio Gates, if they can stay healthy.

Danny Woodhead is another player who will see more playing time. The latest rumor had the Chargers using a rotation at the running back position and with the Chargers need for playmakers he could even see time in the slot.

Our best wishes go out to Danario Alexander for a successful surgery and full recovery.
