According to SI.com, Rams RB Steven Jackson reportedly signed a new six-year deal. The terms of the deal are not yet known, but it is thought to be a contract worth $40-$50 million, with about $20 million or so in guarantees.
FFX: Coach Scott Linehan said that Jackson would be dressed for Saturday night's preseason game against the Ravens, but the back is not expected to play. We will keep you posted on those contract figures once they emerge.

According to Colts.com, Colts QB Peyton Manning, who underwent a procedure to remove an infected bursa sac, participated in the team’s morning walkthrough on Wednesday. “He took all the walkthrough reps today,” Colts coach Tony Dungy said. “He has a routine he’s in and pretty much that’s going to be it. He’s taking all the walkthrough stuff and (backup) Jim (Sorgi)’s taking the regular part of practice. He (Manning) is here and involved and doing fine.”
FFX: This is a good sign for Manning, who has recently moved down to our No. 3QB spot behind Tom Brady and Tony Romo. Unless Manning suffers a setback, he will remain inside our top 3QBs heading into 2008, although one of our most recommended strategies this season is to wait on a QB - Draft a quarterback like Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger or Derek Anderson... all three stud QBs are falling into the 4th- to 6th-round range, which is a bargain considering all three are capable of playing inside the top four overall at season's end.
According to STLToday.com, the 27-day holdout by Rams RB Steven Jackson is finally over. The running back flew to St. Louis last night and was on the field and working out with the team this morning. When Jackson arrived in St. Louis late last night, his extension was "all but a done deal," according to the report by STLToday. "In principle, it's agreed to," Jackson said.
FFX: Jackson should have a top 4-5RB season in 2008. As for his deal, the terms are not yet known - We will keep you posted on that.

According to Post-Gazette.com, Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said that rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall has been everything the organization has hoped for and more. "He's violent running down there," Arians said. "He made the one guy miss and he ran over the safety. There's going to be one of those guys you have to take care of yourself, and he's starting to understand that and get yards." Then Arians said, "It's nice to not have to throw him into the fire. He can go bits and pieces until we have to [use him]."
FFX: Mendenhall won't go nuts early on - Unless Willie Parker falls victim to injury - But, if you want a RB4/5 that can play like a RB2/3 down the stretch, well... Mendy is your guy! This aggressive rookie is in the perfect situation, as that Steelers' offense is going to be extremely tough to defend. Holmes is going to stretch the field, forcing defenses to focus on stopping the pass - This will create huge rushing lanes each and every Sunday. Also, keep in mind that the Steelers' offensive line is very underrated, something we said the moment Mendy was drafted by the Steelers back in April. One of our favorite bargain RB2s this year is the combo of Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall. Go get a Gore and two elite WRs in your first three rounds, then snag yourself that Steelers duo. Great strategy in '08!
According to KansasCity.com, for the third consecutive day, Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles sat out practice due to a sore shoulder.
FFX: We like Charles, but at 6-1, 205 pounds, we would like to see him put on some weight before we label him as Larry Johnson's successor. Successor or not, though, L.J. isn't going anywhere for a couple seasons. He has low mileage, despite one season that included 400+ carries... don't let L.J. haters tell you different. As far as handcuffing goes, if we HAD TO go with a handcuff right this second, Charles is probably the best option (note: that could change). Kolby Smith might be the official back-up for the moment, but we expect Charles to grab the gig at some point this season.
Shawne Merriman had his knee examined by Dr. James Andrews on Wednesda
According to Mike Preston of BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens coach John Harbaugh does not know when injured RB Willis McGahee (knee) will return, and that the running back could possibly miss the entire preseason. Preston then went on to say that he wouldn't be surprise if the Ravens cut McGahee before the season is over.
FFX: The part about McGahee getting cut at some point is almost not worth posting, but it needs addressing because it's hitting news wires everywhere. Look, McGahee isn't getting cut and he recently vowed to be ready for Week 1. He has reportedly angered team officials with his work ethic, but don't even consider counting on him being cut. Keep in mind that a report emerged the other day suggesting that the Dolphins would consider trading Ronnie Brown before the season began... and what happened? The Dolphins immediately shot that down. Hopefully this news affects McGahee's value in your upcoming drafts - That's good for you... but as we continue to write, draft Ray Rice at almost any cost. The rookie won't take his job, but if hurt, Rice will produce under Cam Cameron. That RB combo could crank out top 8RB numbers in '08.

According to STLToday.com, Rams RB Steven Jackson has decided to end his holdout. Jackson will report to the team's facility tonight and is expected to be on the field on Friday. Sources on both sides of this are confident that a deal will get done soon. His total fines are $408,132, according to reports.
FFX: As we have said from the start, the last time an elite runner sat out out chunk of the regular-season was in the 1990s. Jackson should get his deal done soon. Getting back on the field soon will help Jackson stay healthy this year - He should be ready to rumble in Week 1. If this situation changes, or if there is more to this report, we will certainly update all of you immediately.
According to ESPN.com, Colts QB Peyton Manning made it to his first practice of the season on Tuesday, but couldn't guarantee that he would be ready for the team's first regular-season game on Sept. 7. "I've not really had a whole lot to say, to tell you the truth," Manning said. "As to when I'll be back on the practice field, that's still to be determined. Obviously, the sooner, the better for me. My goal is to be back for the first game."
FFX: We suggest that fantasy owners don't overreact, as Manning is still a top 3-4 fantasy quarterback, and strong mid third-round pick, even if out a game. If news starts breaking suggesting that Manning could miss multiple games, then activate the overreacting process. Until then, we suggest fantasy owners rank the top four QBs like this: Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning and then Drew Brees. If you have a fantasy draft in the coming days and don't have time to wait for Manning updates, it isn't nuts to select Brees ahead of Manning, although, our advice is to just wait on a QB in 2008. Quarterbacks like Ben Roethlisberger, Derek Anderson and Carson Palmer will likely fall in your upcoming draft - Take advantage of that and let someone else reach for Manning, although, if Manning falls to bargain value, obviously strike.
Rams running back Steven Jackson will end his holdout and report to the team Thursday, according to a source familiar with discussions between the team, Jackson and Jackson's agent, Eugene Parke
According to Bengals.com, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that WR Chad Johnson's sprained shoulder has progressed much faster than expected, and Week 1 remains the target for a return.
FFX: Of course nothing is for certain and we can't predict setbacks, but it sounds like Chad will be ready for the season opener - We expect a monster campaign out of Ocho Cinco in 2008.
According to Bengals.com, if the season started today, the starting running back for the Bengals would be Chris Perry. "Chris feels like the starting running back and he feels very good about that," Marvin Lewis said. "Right now that's probably the way we'd enter the season. He's exhibiting it on the practice field, not only in the games he's played but the way he's practiced and that's good to see."
FFX: Perry has huge sleeper value entering 2008. He now moves ahead of Rudi on our 2008 Redraft Rankings. If you already own Perry, congrats on the draft value! If you plan to draft him in an upcoming draft, make sure you don't reach too high for him, as this situation is still very cloudy - Until his value climbs out of bargain type value, though, continue to snag him in the middle rounds.

According to Philadelphia.com, Eagles WR Kevin Curtis has been diagnosed with a sports hernia and is set to undergo surgery on Thursday. Eagles coach Andy Reid said that his receiver will be out “for a while” but should return this season at some point. “They’ve got to go in and see – I’d like to tell you a time on it, but I can’t,” Reid said. When asked whether or not he has called Arizona about disgruntled WR Anquan Boldin, Reid said: “I’m not going to get into all that.”
FFX: Not good news for the Eagles or Donovan McNabb. This is definitely going to trigger some rumors about Anquan Boldin and maybe even Roy Williams. We wouldn't be surprised if Drew Rosenhaus, Boldin's agent, releases a new Youtube clip here shortly on this matter. Stay tuned, but expect Curtis to miss at least 4-6 weeks... maybe longer. Jason Avant? Sleeper alert? He is a third-year receiver in 2008. Rookie DeSean Jackson will have to step up also.
According to NYPost.com, updating previous reports, Jets WR David Clowney may not have a broken collarbone after all. Recent reports suggest that Clowney has a shoulder injury, but the extent of the injury is still unknown. Jets coach Eric Mangini said that Clowney would be "out for a little while."
FFX: It is tough to say what is going on with this - Since Clowney is an extreme deep sleeper of ours, you can bet we will keep you updated on this. If the shoulder injury is bad, he could still be out indefinitely, but stay tuned... hopefully he can recover from whatever it is he is suffering from.
According to BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee surgery) vows that he will be ready for the season opener. "I will be ready [for the regular season] but I don't know about playing in the preseason," he said today.
FFX: They key to owning Willis McGahee is to own Ray Rice. We have said this over and over. Cam Cameron is a fantasy machine when it comes to cranking out productive rushing attacks. The attack will most likely be a top 10 attack, so if you own both McGahee and Rice, you should be money in 2008. Top eight numbers are not out of the question for the McGahee/Rice combo.
Coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that receiver Kevin Curtis will undergo sports hernia surgery that will definitely keep him out of the Eagles' season opener against the St. Louis Ram
According to Chargers.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates passed his physical on Tuesday and took part in individual drills. “It’s another step forward,” Gates said. “Hopefully I’ll work my way back in there. I’m glad to be back practicing with my teammates and now you just hope things continue to go well.”
FFX: There is still risk rolling with Gates in 2008, but things are clearly looking up. Gates is our No. 2 ranked tight end heading into August drafts.
According to ESPN.com, Browns QB Derek Anderson suffered a "mild" concussion on Monday night against the Giants.
FFX: Anderson's concussion is not considered severe, and according to the ESPN article, the quarterback should, at the very least, be ready for the team's regular-season opener on Sept. 7 (against Dallas). If ready to go, and we think he will be, Anderson has the ability, and situation, to become a top 5-6 fantasy quarterback in 2008.

According to PalmBeachPost.com, updating an earlier report by ESPN, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano shot down the rumor that the team could be looking to deal running back Ronnie Brown. “No chance that we’re trading Ronnie,” Sparano said early this afternoon. “I understand another rumor is flying out there. Last week, it was (quarterback John) Beck. This week it’s Ronnie."
FFX: Like we said when this rumor first emerged, we couldn't see how the initial report was accurate. The Dolphins have no depth to make such a move. As for Brown and his 2008 value, expect a slow start this upcoming season. Ricky Williams should get a lot of carries to start the year - Brown should be closer to 100 percent next season.
The Atlanta Falcons have released WR Joe Horn.
FFX: It's tough to say if Horn will find a new home soon. Dallas could be interested - We will keep you posted.
Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has a "mild" concussion, the result of a second-quarter sack in Monday's preseason loss to the Giants, a source told ESPN.com on Tuesda
According to Bengals.com, the signing of WR Chris Henry could indicate that Chad Johnson's sprained shoulder might be more serious than originally thought. The article suggests that the Bengals might be preparing for the possibility that Chad could be sidelined for a "several" weeks.
FFX: This doesn't make much sense, as Chris Henry can't play until Week 5. Johnson insisted on Monday night that he would be ready for the opener. Of course Chad could be wrong and overly optimistic, there is no evidence that Chad is going to be out long... not yet at least... we're digging for it, though. Since this news was floating around out there, we wanted to address it. Of course we can't be sure, but we do not believe Johnson's injury is severe enough that the Bengals are looking past Week 5 with this Henry move. If Chad's Week 5 availability was in jeopardy, the team would be signing a player that will be available on Week 1. We will keep digging! Stay tuned.

According to Chargers.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates took the field before last Saturday night's preseason game and ran some routes and he clearly impressed his head coach. “I was extremely impressed with the workout (Saturday),” Head Coach Norv Turner said. “It looked a lot like the workouts he’s been having the last couple of weeks. I think the recovery each time he does that work out gets better and he’s still on target to play when the season starts. What he’s able to do over the next ten days, we will just have to wait and see.”
FFX: Witten is still our number one ranked tight end entering 2008, but Gates remains at that number two spot. Many on staff here at FFX have Winslow rising up the cheat sheets, but Gates still has the edge.
According to NFL Live, Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin is once again demanding a trade - The receiver is scheduled to make 2.5 million this season. Both the Eagles and Cowboys would reportedly go after Boldin if the Cards made him available, but that is not likely to happen.
FFX: Boldin, who claims he was lied to by the team, reportedly has no relationship with his head coach. That isn't a good thing, but as NFL Live pointed out last night, Boldin is going to have to put up some good numbers this year no matter what. If healthy, expect Boldin to outperform his draft position by quite a bit.
According to OhioMM.com, Browns QB Derek Anderson also injured his hand in Monday night's preseason contest against the Giants. The hand injury is not thought to be serious, but Browns coach Romeo Crennel is more concerned with Anderson's possible concussion. Crennel had this to say on both injuries: "I think when he got sacked he hit on his hand and he might have bruised it, it might have hurt for a second. I think the head injury is the one of most concern."
FFX: Hopefully D-Anderson will be fine. We have the guy pegged as a top 5-6 fantasy quarterback in 2008 - If healthy, and that is the unpredictable part, we have no doubt that Anderson will shine and become an elite fantasy scorer.
According to NYDailynews.com, Jets WR David Clowney ended up suffering a broken collarbone in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Redskins. This is sometimes a four-to-six-week injury, depending on the severity, but it could very well be season-ending.
FFX: Awful news. This guy had so much upside with Favre in New York. We will let you know if he is in fact out for the season - We assume he will be, but we will update you when we know for sure.
According to Cleveland.com, Browns starting QB Derek Anderson suffered a concussion on Monday night against Giants.
FFX: When he walked off the field, he didn't look too bad, but concussions are never a good thing. Still, it usually takes a handful of them before they start becoming a reoccurring thing. Expect Derek Anderson to be fine for Week 1, but keep checking back with us to be sure all is well with one of our biggest 2008 breakout candidates.
According to Rotoworld, the Bengals have resigned WR Chris Henry to a one-year deal.
FFX: This should not be an indication that the Bengals are worried about Chad Johnson (shoulder) - Ocho Cinco has made it very clear that he will be ready for Week 1. Henry should be grabbed in almost all leagues, but keep in mind that he is suspended for the team's first four games. Just as soon as he returns, he may be worthy of a WR3 spot in larger leagues.
According to ESPN.com, former Bengals WR Chris Henry is headed to Cincy to sign a deal with the Bengals. "We don't comment on speculated player moves," Cincinnati team spokesman Jack Brennan said. "We only comment when something is done."
FFX: Henry is suspended for the first four games of the season, but he is a great pick-up right now for those of you that have already had your drafts. Even missing four games, Henry has the talent, and soon the situation, to still put up 8-10TDs. Talent has never been his problem when it comes to Chris Henry. Grab him now in your larger leagues.
According to Rotoworld, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Monday Night Countdown that Dolphins Ronnie Brown could be in a different uniform by Week 1.
FFX: It's tough to say how this developed and how accurate it is, but we will surely stay on top of it. The Dolphins have no depth to make this work, so we're scratching our heads at this report. That said, it does appear Ricky Williams is going to possibly get a majority of the carries in early 2008 and he is even listed as the top running back on the team's most current depth chart. Don't get too carried away with depth charts during the preseason, but this does indicate that the team trusts Ricky a lot. Brown will probably be the for sure starter (if able), but make no mistake... Ricky will get touches this year! No matter what they say, running backs need a full season of playing on the rehabilitated knee before they are even close to 100 percent healthy.
In Monday night's preseason game against the Browns, Giants WR Domenik Hixon caught four passes for 63 yards and 2TDs. He also added an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
FFX: Monitor this guy, as both passes were from Eli Manning and the two clearly have a rapport. With the Giants WRs banged up, Hixon may forcing himself into the team's 2008 plans.
According to ChicagoBears.com, Bears QB Kyle Orton has been named the Bears' starting quarterback. “To come to a decision like that, we’ve taken a lot of things into consideration—last year, how we finished the season, OTAs, training camp, preseason games,” Coach Lovie Smith said. “In the end it comes down to a gut feeling that you have, and I feel good about Kyle leading our team.”
FFX: Orton probably isn't the answer, but either is Grossman. Matt Forte could see a lot of eight-man fronts early on this season, which is too bad... with some room to run, Forte could put together a very solid rookie season.

According to Sun-Sentinel.com, Dolphins RB Ricky Williams might end up being the team's "workhorse in the backfield" to start the season. Ronnie Brown, who is having a rough enough time getting over his torn ACL, is now trying to overcome a thumb injury, one that could keep him out of the team's next preseason game. "I certainly feel comfortable with both backs back there,'' Sparano said. "It's a matter of getting both guys the work they need. To be honest with you, even the other night, it seemed like Ricky carried the ball a bunch, but Ricky only played 16 plays, and 10 of those were carries."
FFX: Not good news for Ronnie Brown owners. What many fantasy owners aren't realizing is that Ronnie Brown would have dropped off big-time this season, even if he didn't suffer a torn ACL last season. The departure of Cam Cameron would have alone turned Ronnie Brown back into a 10-12 type of fantasy running back - The ACL injury just makes the decline in numbers that much worse. Cam Cameron is a force in fantasy football, which is why we believe that the Willis McGahee/Ray Rice combo is going to be huge in '08. If you have high expectations of Ronnie Brown entering this season, get ready to be extremely disappointed.
Kyle Orton will start as the Bears opening day quarterback -- beating Rex Grossman in a competition that lasted through training camp and two preseason game
According to SI.com, Colts coach Tony Dungy and other team officials continue to suggest that Peyton Manning's recovery is still on schedule, and Dungy even indicated on Monday that his quarterback could be back on the field as early as next week.
FFX: As we always say, there is always risk in drafting an injured player, but we think that Manning has a strong chance to be ready for Week 1. Our top five fantasy QBs heading into August drafts are Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Carson Palmer, with Big Ben and D-Anderson closely behind. This is the year we say wait on a QB... it's tough to compete with a team that is stacked at the running back position when they still have a quarterback like Derek Anderson or Ben Roethlisberger. Be that team, don't face it!
According to Rotoworld, Bengals WR Chad Johnson (shoulder) vowed on Monday that he will be able to play in the Bengals' season opener against Baltimore.
FFX: Fantastic news for Chad owners everywhere. Chad remains in our top 5-6 range for receivers heading into 2008. Keep stealing Carson Palmer in the fifth-round - He is also in for a monster year.
SI.com's Peter King believes that there is a 30-35% chance that Colts QB Peyton Manning (infected bursa sac) could miss Week 1.
FFX: Hopefully Manning hits the field soon. We still think he will play on opening day, but that could change if the veteran doesn't practice soon. Manning is still clearly a top three fantasy QB in 2008, but for right now, Tony Romo is the safer #2 ranked guy behind Tom Brady.
Tom Brady told a Boston radio station Monday that the foot injury that kept him out of Sunday's preseason game against the Buccaneers is a different injury than the one that he had during the Super Bow
According to Rotoworld, the Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that the Bengals are calling Chad Johnson's shoulder injury a sprain -- However, coach Marvin Lewis reportedly suggested that Chad's shoulder was "briefly dislocated." Lewis had this to say on the matter: "We’ll be able to treat it conservatively, and he’ll have to get his strength back in it."
FFX: The MRI came back negative, which is great news, and Chad is expected to be ready to roll come Week 1. Keep checking back with us in case there is more to this story.
According to Bengals.com, Bengals WR Chad Johnson's recent shoulder injury is not thought to be serious.
FFX: This is great news, but of course we will get further confirmation on this. Keep checking back, but for now it looks like Ocho Cinco will be just fine. Expect top 5WR numbers in 2008 - We are.
Bengals WR Chad Johnson left Sunday night's preseason game against the Lions with what looks to be a shoulder injury.
FFX: Chad looked to be in some pain, but that doesn't necessarily mean much when it comes to Chad, who often heads to the locker room just to come running back onto the field for the second half. Hopefully the stud is alright, as he is in for a big 2008. We will absolutely keep you posted on this. Keep checking back!
According to DallasNews.com, Cowboys WR Miles Austin has suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee and is unlikely to be ready by Week 1. Miles will probably be out 4-6 weeks. This makes WR Sam Hurd the clear No. 3 receiver in Dallas in 2008, and that means something in that offense.
FFX: Hurd has a shot to put up those rare fantasy WR3-type numbers from his team's No. 3 spot. We already own Hurd in two of our deep dynasty expert leagues.
According to Chron.com, with Texans RB Ahman Green possibly out for two weeks with a groin injury, the has brought in veteran running back Marcel Shipp. Coach Gary Kubiak reportedly plans to give RB Steve Slaton starter-type carries on Friday against the Cowboys. “I think he’s earned the right to get some reps with the first group,” Kubiak said Sunday. “He played pretty darn well."
FFX: We don't see Shipp grabbing the starting job, but both Darius Walker and Chris Taylor definitely have a shot. We would stay away from Green this year, but Taylor, Walker and Slaton all have solid draft value in larger leagues. Consider Slaton the 1a with Walker and Taylor closely behind him on the depth chart.

Steelers Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu could return to practice Tuesday.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL. Jackson injured the knee during Saturday night’s game against the Ravens.
FFX: It's tough to say how bad this is, but the good news, according to PFT, is that Jackson is already riding a stationary bike at the team's facility. If he needs surgery, that news should break in the coming week. If he doesn't need surgery, we should know that in the coming week as well. The Vikings are a dangerous team in 2008, and Jackson is coming along faster than we predicted. Can he stay healthy, though? He can't seem to stay away from injuries thus far.
An MRI revealed Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson suffered a sprained medial collateral knee ligament during the Vikings 23-15 victory over the Ravens Saturday night, according to a sourc

Falcons RB Michael Turner ran the football just four times on Saturday against the Colts, but cranked out 113 yards with long runs of 63 and 52.
FFX: We get told that we're beating a dead horse with Michael Turner, that we talk about him almost too much here on FFX. Well, we have to then ask why he is still getting drafted in the fourth-round... until that changes, expect us to continue to pound this one into the ground... He has some of the longest runs in Chargers franchise history (83, 74 and 73), and racked those long runs up as a back-up. Well, he just had runs of 63 and 52 tonight... anyone else but us recognizing a pattern here?

According to Boston.com, when the Patriots take on the Bucs on Sunday night, Patriots QB Tom Brady will not make the trip with the team. Brady will stay in the New England to rest his sore foot, according to a NFL source.
FFX: Brady's foot was a hot topic back in January when he was seen in New York City wearing a protective boot. It is unknown if this is the same issue, or even the same foot, as New England never reveals much when it comes to their injured players. We will keep you posted once we know more.

Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell completed 10-of-17 passes for 75 yards, 1TD and 0INTs on Friday night against the Titans. Raiders rookie RB Darren McFadden also had a solid game, rushing the football six times for 44 yards, which is an impressive 7.3 yards per carry.
FFX: Russell commanded that Raiders offense well, hooking up with TE Zach Miller four times for 48 yards and 1TD. Russell still has a lot to prove, but Friday night's performance should give fantasy owners hope. Rookie Darren McFadden was very impressive against the Titans, and had an impressive 26-yards scamper - Look for McFadden to share carries early on in 2008, but by mid-season, we wouldn't be shocked if the rookie was worth a RB2 spot in larger leagues. Javon Walker did not have a single catch on Friday night.
Titans RB Chris Johnson had another impressive outing on Friday night against the Raiders. The rookie ran the football eight times for 46 yards.
FFX: The 24th overall pick in this year's 2008 NFL Draft had yet another run where he almost took it to the house. Johnson should eventually get some starts in Tennessee in '08 - When he does, watch out!

According to NCTimes.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates continues to rehabilitate his big toe, which he injured during the playoffs last year. The tight end must be pulled off the PUP list before August 30th to avoid missing the first six games of the regular-season. "I refuse to be on that thing, man," Gates said about the PUP list. "I wouldn't imagine they would put me on it, based on the running I've been doing and the cutting I've been doing.
FFX: There is always risk when drafting injured players, but Gates is still the second tight end off the board in our eyes. Jason Witten is clearly the safest No. 1 this season, but Gates is... well, Gates.

According to BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens TE Todd Heap was sidelined yesterday with a calf injury.

According to TampaBay.com, RB Cadillac Williams (patellar tendon) is likely to start the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning that the runner must miss at least six games.
FFX: Williams, who suffered that nasty patellar tendon injury, might play by mid-season if all goes well, but don't hold your breath. This is Earnest Graham's team in 2008. Given that Graham will turn 29 in January, we aren't sure what to make of his dynasty value, but he is very underrated in redraft leagues - He is even capable of producing top 12RB numbers.

According to AZCentral.com, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt's decision to start QB Kurt Warner against the Chiefs on Saturday night might be a sign that there is a quarterback controversy in 2008.
FFX: This is thought by some to be just a motivational tactic, but Warner has now worked with the first team for two straight days. We like Leinart this year if he gets the start, but it's because of those receivers in AZ, so really, whomever starts in AZ in '08 should do well. Leinart/Warner is a nice combo to grab late if you're plan of attack on draft day is to wait for a fantasy quarterback.
The Green Bay Packers' proposed $20 million marketing deal for Brett Favre included a merchandise line, autographs, personal appearances and even a blog, according to a report in The Sporting News' online newsletter Frida
Panthers rookie RB Jonathan Stewart ran the ball four times for three yards on Thursday night against the Eagles. DeAngelo Williams had eight carries for 32 yards.
FFX: It was nice to just see Stewart face some contact. Stewart is a tough guy to rank right now in redraft leagues, as DeAngelo Williams is going to fight to keep the starting job in Carolina in 2008. Expect Williams to start early on in the upcoming fantasy season... if Stewart is going to take over the starting gig at some point, it will be later in the year.
Eagles rookie WR DeSean Jackson caught seven passes for 71 yards (long of 19) on Thursday night against the Panthers. QB Donovan McNabb completed 11-of-24 passes for 98 yards, while RB Brian Westbrook ran the football five times for 14 yards.
FFX: The Eagles are going to have a solid 2008 campaign. We expect big things out of McNabb and Westy - Don't expect too much out of Jackson just yet, as he still needs to lock down the team's third WR spot, but his dynasty value is definitely starting to look up.
On Thursday night against the Bills, Steelers WR Santonio Holmes caught two passes for 53 yards and 1TD, which was a 40-yard score. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 9-for-11 passes for 142 yards, 1TD and 1INT.
FFX: Big Ben could be in for a top four season at the quarterback position. Holmes looks fantastic, and you may not be able to steal him any longer in August drafts. He was the best of the best last year in terms of yards per catch, and his 40-yard score is going to open some eyes a bit. Still, do your best to snag him as your sleeper WR2, but don't be surprised if he goes earlier than he should on draft day. It's a shame when one of our 2008 breakout candidates rises too quickly, because the draft value diminishes a ton.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 9-for-11 passes for 142 yards, 1TD and 1INT on Thursday night against the Bills. Steelers WR Santonio Holmes caught two passes for 53 yards and 1TD, which was a 40-yard score.
FFX: Big Ben could be in for a top four season at the quarterback position. Holmes looks fantastic - Roethy just has too many weapons to fail in 2008.
Bills WR Lee Evans pulled in three passes for 55 yards on Thursday night against the Steelers. Bills QB Trent Edwards completed 9-of-11 passes for 104 yards and 2TDs.
FFX: Edwards looked solid, which is great news for underrated WR Lee Evans. In early fantasy drafts, Evans is being drafted like a WR3, which is a steal. The guy may end up playing like a strong WR2 when all is said and done, so take full advantage while you still can!
Steelers rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall rushed the football 11 times for 30 yards and 1TD on Thursday night against the Bills. Mendenhall had a long run of nine yards and his touchdown run was from six yards out. Steelers RB Willie Parker ran the ball five times for 14 yards (2.8) and QB Quarterback Dennis Dixon ran the ball twice for 54 yards and 1TD (long of 47).
FFX: Despite Mendy's poor average on Thursday night, he still looked good and proved explosive. We see FWP getting a lot of work early on in the 2008 season, but we predict that Mendy will get a ton of work down the stretch. We truly believe that the rookie will start looking like a future first-round fantasy running back as we near the end of the 2008 regular-season.
Bills QB Trent Edwards completed 9-of-11 passes for 104 yards and 2TDs on Thursday night against the Steelers.
FFX: Edwards looked great, tossing two touchdowns to his tight end Robert Royal. With Edwards ready to take that next step forward, keep stealing Lee Evans in the middle rounds while you still can. The Bills are definitely a dark horse team this year - Watch out.

According to Bengals.com, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis declared that RB Chris Perry is playing for the starting job. He also added, "Everybody is gunning for a starting spot."
FFX: Don't get too excited if you're a Perry owner, but keep an eye on this situation. Rudi has taken some abuse throughout his career, so it wouldn't be all that shocking to see another back start a handful of games in 2008. Perry has always been on our radar and the kid is extremely gifted. He is a must-handcuff for Rudi owners this upcoming season and he is even a crafty pick-up in larger leagues for those who do not own Rudi.
According to TheNewsTribune.com, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren expects his starting flanker in 2008 to pull in the most receptions.
FFX: Courtney Taylor is currently the team's starting flanker. Don't get too excited, but don't ignore the guy either. As we always say, rags-to-riches stories happen every season, so if you have a spot to burn in a larger dynasty league, take a stab. Jets WR David Clowney is add/drop experiment No. 1 so far this year... Taylor could be experiment No. 2.
According to TheNewsTribune.com, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren will start Julius Jones this week, but Maurice Morris is expected to start the team's third preseason game.
FFX: Since Julius Jones is going a lot higher in early drafts, we recommend that fantasy owners avoid him. If he falls to bargain value, obviously invest, but Maurice Morris is falling extremely far (for the moment) - Take advantage while it lasts.

According to SI.com, when asked the chances of WR Chris Henry landing back with the Bengals, the receiver's agent Marvin Frazier responded, "Better than 50 percent."
FFX: Baltimore might also have some interest in Henry, as former Bengals wide receivers coach Hugh Jackson is now an assistant in Baltimore. Henry should find a home, which will make him an attractive late-round grab on draft day.
According to NYDailyNews.com, Giants WR Plaxico Burress said that he does not plan to fully return to practice until he is 100% healthy, but the veteran receiver does expect to be near 100% by Week 1. “If I’m not, I’ll be pretty close,” Burress said. “I’ll be a lot further along than I was last year. The more I rest, the more I take care of my ankle, I’ll be close to 100%. If I’m not 100, I’ll probably be 95, 96. It’ll definitely take that.”
FFX: Burress should be good to go for Week 1. When asked if he'd be in the Giants' line-up on opening night, he had this to say: “Yeah,” Burress said. “I will be.” Consider Burress an excellent WR2 in 2008.
According to Tennessean.com, Titans RB Chris Johnson has set a goal for his first NFL campaign. "My main goal is to win rookie of the year,'' Johnson said Wednesday. "I want to come in and do the same thing Adrian Peterson came in and did last year. I think that is possible.''
FFX: He definitely has the talent to do it. We have very little faith in LenDale White, so eventually we do expect Johnson to see some starts. His 4.24 speed is ridiculous - The guy is going to make plays in 2008.

According to Rotoworld, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis denied that the team is interested in getting WR Chris Henry back into a Bengals' uniform.
FFX: Stay tuned. Henry could find a home before the 2008 season begins, but if he doesn't, he is sure to find a job before Week 5. Where he lands will ultimately determine his '08 fantasy value. If in Dallas or Cincy, Henry is still capable of grabbing eight or so scores despite being suspended for the first four games of the season. His off-the-field problems have always been the only thing standing in his way - The guy is loaded with talent.
According to Rotoworld, Bengals WR Chad Johnson talked with local media about his contract situation. Johnson reportedly gave credit to mentor Ray Lewis for helping him turn his attitude around this summer.
FFX: We know... what you really want are updates on Chad's possible last name change. For those of you that haven't been on our breaking news all day long, Chad has reportedly taken the first steps to legally change his last name to "Ocho Cinco." Who knows if he will actually take this all the way, but we love all this drama for Chad when it's channeled in a positive direction. The receiver is in for a top five fantasy season if happy and motivated - He is at his best when the creative juices are flowing, so we say have at it. Go break those jersey sales records! Of course we will keep you updated on the name change, if it even goes down.
Tennessee linebacker Ryan Fowler considers his steroids case with the NFL close
According to Rotoworld, coach Eric Mangini has confirmed that Jets QB Brett Favre will start the Jets' second preseason game.
FFX: It will be nice to see who Favre goes to most often in the team's second preseason contest - Most everyone believes that the veteran's new favorite target will be Cotchery, but don't count out Coles. Cotchery should certainly be selected higher in August drafts, but Coles could be very underrated heading into September.
According to NYDailyNews.com, Jets WR David Clowney was reportedly helped off the field on Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.
FFX: Hopefully Clowney is fine, as he is one of our favorite EXTREMELY deep fantasy sleeper wide receivers this season. If the injury isn't serious, we think that Clowney will be the team's third receiver entering Week 1.
According to Rotoworld, the agent for suspended WR Chris Henry has reportedly confirmed that he has had conversations with the Bengals.
FFX: Keep in mind that Henry is suspended for the first four games of the 2008 season. Still, the guy is so capable in that Cincy offense, he could still put up eight scores on 12 games. Talent has never been his problem.
According to IBABuzz.com, WR Javon Walker has reportedly been been practicing well as of late. “I’ve been very critical of Javon throughout this camp and throughout the offseason and he’s had a string right here of the best practices he’s had,” Kiffin said. “He looks to be in the right frame of mind lately and so if we can continue to work on that and push that, it’s going in a positive direction.”
FFX: Don't count on Walker this season, but his decreased value has made him almost no risk and just about all reward. Grab him in the later rounds and hope for the best.
Adam "Pacman" Jones will mail a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday in which he will ask for full reinstatement to the league, the Dallas Morning News report
According to SI.com, the Falcons are leaning toward starting rookie QB Matt Ryan in Week 1.
FFX: Ryan looked good this past weekend, which is promising for Michael Turner and crew in 2008. Roddy White is the real deal - Ryan should feed him the ball early and often this upcoming season.
According to NYDailyNews.com, Packers QB Brett Favre reportedly said that his arm is "dragging a bit."
FFX: This isn't a concern... as the article suggests, Favre is just "refreshingly honest" with the media. The Jets quarterback has the ability to be a top 7-8 fantasy QB in 2008.
Brett Favre says his rocket right arm feels "fatigued" -- but not sore -- during a break from his fifth day of practice with the New York Jet
According to HeraldOnline.com, Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart might play on Thursday night against the Eagles.
FFX: Solid news for Stewart owners. Stewart has fantastic dynasty value and could very well be a top 15 fantasy running back of the future, but it's tough to say how well he will do as a rookie. DeAngelo Williams looked great in the team's recent preseason game, and he appears to have a grip on a decent number of carries to start the season. If Stewart is to eventually start, and get starter-type carries, you're probably looking at this happening in the final eight games of the season, or earlier IF Williams suffers injury.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Bengals WR Chad Johnson "has taken the first steps" toward getting the state of Florida to legally change his last name to Ocho Cinco.
FFX: Back in 2006, Johnson was fined $5,000 for having “Ocho Cinco” on the back of his jersey before a game. In theory, Johnson could once again have Ocho Cinco on his back, but this time without being fined. This is also thought to be an attempt by Chad to get some of that cash he never received in a contract extension he so desperately wanted earlier this off-season. An "Ocho Cinco" jersey would surely be one of the league's top selling ones. Classic Chad. That's what we love about the guy.
According to Rotoworld, NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bengals are considering brining back WR Chris Henry.
FFX: Henry is suspended for the first four games of the season, but would be the Bengals' WR3 instantly upon his return (if signed). Even out four games, this kid has the talent to catch eight scores... his off-the-field problems have always been the only thing standing in his way. We will keep you posted.
Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress took the field in pads Tuesday night for the first time since the Giants opened training camp late last month.
According to SFGate.com, Mike Nolan believes that WR Josh Morgan could win a starting job heading into Week 1, especially if WR Bryant Johnson's hamstring does not get any better.
FFX: Keep an eye on this guy. Again, like we said with David Clowney (Jets), well over half of the time, playing the add/drop game in the deepest of dynasty leagues doesn't often land you a stud... but every single season the Marques Colston types emerge, the Derek Anderson types... it happens. It's those fantasy owners who are on top of situations like this that eventually land that waiver wire steal - We're not saying that Morgan is a lock to even start in 2008, because he isn't, but he is definitely worth keeping an eye on in larger dynasty leagues.
Colts defensive back Michael Coe will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left knee last wee
According to ClevelandBrowns.com, Browns TE Kellen Winslow was back practicing at full speed on Tuesday. Winslow missed last week's preseason opener due to a hamstring injury.
FFX: Winslow has top 3TE upside this year - We still have Gates and Witten above Winslow, but the Browns tight end has enough talent to change that if he rolls into Week 1 fully healthy. With Derek Anderson ready to explode in '08, only injuries can stand in Winslow's way this fantasy season.
The Cardinals wasted no time adding former 49ers inside linebacker Brandon Moore to their roster one day after he was released by the 49ers
According to SignOnSanDiego.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot surgery) is running routes "on the side during Chargers practice," but according to the report, the tight end is not yet close to 100 percent.
FFX: It is tough to say if Gates will miss Week 1 - Even if he does, he is our number two ranked tight end heading into 2008. One could argue that Kellen Winslow deserves consideration, but for now, Gates will remain at the two spot. That could change, though, if it looks he could miss a week or two this season.
According to NYDailyNews.com, Jets QB Brett Ratliff has been "so impressive" as of late, he may have already overtaken Kellen Clemens as the team's primary back-up to starter Brett Favre.
FFX: We really like this kid. Of course with Favre in front of him, he has very little 2008 appeal. That said, if Favre were to suffer injury, deep dynasty leaguers should give him a look. Even with Favre in New York, deeper dynasty leaguers should keep an eye on him for 2009 and beyond. He looks extremely talented.
According to CarrollCountyTimes.com, Ravens RB Willis McGahee was scheduled to have surgery Mondayd. “We’re going to go in there and scope and clean it up just to make sure he’s going to ready to play opening day and make sure we know exactly what’s going on in there,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. Harbaugh acknowledged the chance that McGahee may be unavailable for the team's opener. "There’s always a possibility,” Harbaugh said on the matter. “You never say never on those things, but we’re confidence without the scope he would’ve been ready. We just feel like this is kind of a cautionary procedure to make sure we’re right.”
FFX: It's tough to say if McGahee will be ready, but if fantasy owners grab Ray Rice, the combo is sure to produce. There is always risk when drafting guys that are currently hurt, so know that, but also know that Cam Cameron is capable of making that rushing attack crank out top eight running back numbers in 2008.

According to SFGate.com, 49ers QB T.J. O'Sullivan appears to be "taking command of the starting job" in San Francisco.
FFX: O'Sullivan, as of late, has been working exclusively with the first team - It is his job to lose at this point, but things can sure change quickly with a team built like SF. O'Sullivan is worth a look in the deepest of dynasty leagues (just in case) and he deserves monitoring throughout the preseason.
Packers RB Brandon Jackson ran the football six times for 44 yards on Monday against the Bengals.
FFX: Jackson looked good rushing the football tonight, but missed some key blocks, something that will surely help Grant stay on the field more in 2008. Jackson is still a must-have for Grant owners this year.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 9-of-15 passes for 117 yards, one touchdown and had one interception.
FFX: Rodgers actually looked pretty good. A lot of mistakes were made while he was under center, but most of the mistakes were by his receivers and rushers. Brandon Jackson missed a block and Rodgers got hammered, and his receivers couldn't catch. Despite being somewhat impressed, we question Rodgers' ability to stay healthy on a full season. We also question his ability to handle the pressures that go along with his situation in 2008.
Recently added Dolphins QB Chad Pennington appears to be the team's top quarterback. The Dolphins released a new depth chart and Pennington was on top.
FFX: Pennington should win this job, but even if he doesn't, that team is now a lot more secure at the quarterback position, which is great news for Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

According to TheNewsTribune.com, Seahawks WR Bobby Engram cracked a bone in his shoulder during Friday's game against the Vikings and will miss 6-8 weeks. Coach Mike Holmgren said that Courtney Taylor is his possible replacement.

According to TheNewsTribune.com, Seahawks WR Bobby Engram cracked a bone in his shoulder during Friday's game against the Vikings and will miss 6-8 weeks. Coach Mike Holmgren said that Courtney Taylor is his possible replacement.
FFX: Courtney Taylor is a solid pick-up in very deep dynasty leagues - This injury also opens the door for our FFX forum favorite... Ben Obomanu.
Willis McGahee should be ready for the Ravens' regular-season opene
According to HeraldOnline.com, Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams has turned his entire game around and is "looking more and more like the back who could carry the Carolina Panthers." Even some of the Panthers players believe that Williams can carry the load in 2008. "I think DeAngelo would be the first one to tell you, now that he's the starter, the feature guy, he's really got a lot more serious about running the ball," left tackle Jordan Gross said.
FFX: Offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson had this to say on Williams: \"I don\'t mean to make this sound like he was immature, but he\'s really grown up, and I think he\'s become a major player on our offense.\" Williams looked very good this past weekend, rushing for two scores and 55 yards against the Colts. We like Jonathan Stewart a lot, and the rookie has top 15RB upside for the future, but Williams is definitely a concern if you\'re a 2008 Jonathan Stewart owner.
According to BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he expects safety Ed Reed and running back Willis McGahee to be ready for Week 1. The Ravens face the Bengals. "No, I'm not doubtful of [Reed's availability for the season opener] at all based on what we've been told by the doctors," Harbaugh said after today's practice. "I understand as an athlete, you want it to be right."
FFX: \"We were confident without the scope that he would have been ready,\" Harbaugh said. \"We just feel like this is a cautionary procedure and [we want to] make sure we\'re right.\" Of course coaches are going to be optimistic about their injured players, but this is encouraging. Still, Ray Rice is a must-have for McGahee owners in 2008. Draft Rice at least a round or two above his ADP to ensure that you have that Cam Cameron running back production locked down in \'08. Cameron is very capable of producing top 8RB numbers from his offensive attack - Great news for those targeting McGahee, as he will most likely fall into the beginning of the second-round, which is a steal considering his ceiling this year.
According to Rotoworld, Ravens RB Willis McGahee is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He could have surgery on Monday. The recovery is expected to be 2-4 weeks, which could affect McGahee's ability to be ready for Week 1.
FFX: Ray Rice is definitely a must-have for McGahee owners - Also note that this news could make McGahee a steal in 2008 drafts. He is already falling a bit too far, and when on the field, we see McGahee producing top 8-10RB stats, if not better. Cam Cameron makes rushers into fantasy machines... he proved it in San Diego and he proved it last year in Miami with Ronnie Brown. Grab that duo without hesitation in 2008, especially given the cost. McGahee will likely fall out of the first-round now... but BE SURE that you grab Ray Rice a round or two before his ADP. Securing both rushers is the key to landing that top 8RB production. This is unfortunate news, but to be successful in fantasy football, you have to observe and adjust - Use this news to your advantage.

According to AZCentral.com, Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin was back at practice on Sunday. Boldin hasn't practiced since suffering a hamstring strain two weeks ago.
FFX: He reportedly \"looked like his old self,\" despite having a limited number of snaps.
According to reports, Browns WR Braylon Edwards has been released from the hospital. He had suffered a gash in his foot during practice and was hospitalized on Saturday night just to be safe.
FFX: Sounds like he is fine - Again, if there is more to this, we will let you know.

According to Cleveland.com, Browns WR Braylon Edwards was not at practice Sunday morning because he was hospitalized Saturday night after suffering a gash in his right foot, which was repaired with stitches. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said that Edwards could be released from the hospital on today (Sunday) and that Edwards was kept overnight for precautionary reasons.
FFX: Donte' Stallworth gashed open Edwards' foot with his cleat on a special teams drill - Edwards should be fine and is a top five fantasy receiver in 2008. If there is more to this story, like Edwards being injured more than initially reported, we will be sure to let you know, but it sounds like Edwards will be fine.
Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress said he won't practice with the New York Giants until his troublesome right ankle is health
Falcons RB Michael Turner ran the ball five times for 22 yards on Saturday night against the Jaguars. "The Burner" averaged 4.4 yards per carry and had a long run of nine yards.
FFX: Not a bad start for The Burner. The most exciting part about Saturday night's contest against the Jaguars was Matt Ryan's performance. Ryan looked very sharp for a rookie and appears to be heading right for that starting QB job in Atlanta. Great news for Turner owners, or prospective Turner owners, as a balanced attack in 2008 will surely make Turner, who currently has an ADP is in the third- to fourth-rounds, one of this year's biggest fantasy steals. A possible top 10-12RB at the cost of a 30-40 overall pick... what more can a veteran fantasy owner ask for?
Jaguars QB David Garrard completed 4-of-10 passes for 44 yards on Saturday night against the Falcons. He had no passing touchdowns or interceptions, but he did have two carries for 22 yards and one rushing touchdown, with a long run of 21 yards.
FFX: Garrard is the perfect fit for that very dangerous Jaguars offense. He is the true commander of that offensive unit and he is going to lead the Jags into some serious battles in 2008. Garrard is dark horse top 8-10 fantasy quarterback this upcoming season.
Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 9-of-15 passes for 113 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions on Saturday night against the Jaguars. Falcons WR Roddy White also had a good night, catching 5 passes for 47 yards and one touchdown (25).
FFX: Roddy White is the real deal, so let the doubters continue to doubt and go attack him in your draft at bargain value. His touchdown catch was a circus grab on a perfect read by Matt Ryan, who looked very sharp on his 15 passes. The quarterback may just turn this franchise around faster than most expect. The Falcons rushing attack also looked solid on Saturday, averaging 4.79 yards per carry. Michael Turner rushed the football five times for 22 yards, which is a strong 4.4 yards per carry average.
Chargers RB Jacob Hester had 13 carries for 49 yards and 2TDs on Saturday night against . He had a long run of 21 yards.
FFX: Hester is making a strong case to fantasy owners that he deserves to be LaDainian Tomlinson's back-up in 2008. Darren Sproles looked very good last year when his number was called, so don't count him out just yet, but Hester is more likely to be picked-up by someone in your league... so if you can only afford to roster one of the two San Diego back-ups, pick Hester for now.
Titans RB Charles Johnson ran the football six times for 77 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown run was a 66-yard sprint to the end zone.
FFX: This guy has ridiculous speed (4.24 forty) and is starting to become a huge fantasy sleeper entering August drafts. Because he isn\'t a big guy (5-11, 200), the general feel in fantasy lands has been that Johnson may not be every-down material... well, we\'re starting to think that this kid has a solid shot at being the real deal. His 66-yard \"Forest Gump\" scamper was absolutely amazing. Even in our redraft rankings, he is now just two spots from LenDale White and already slotted ahead of players like Chester Taylor and Fred Taylor - He has that much upside right out of the gate!
