The posts that are new always appear in red and after I check them the red goes away. Now for some reason some of them go away and some of them stay red even after I check them? I have been refreshing the page but this doesnt seem to be the problem. Seems to be no rhyme or reason for why some aren't red anymore and why some stay red. Thoughts?

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing…just seems to have started today, though.

I'm unable to use the quicktag editor now. That “other one” has somehow been givien pref even with qt being chosen in my profile.
Every time I hit save post, I get:
Incomplete Entry! Please correct and re-save:
- No Post Content Entered
then I hit it again it the comment posts.

the “new” stuff is gone though. It posts normally, but the added functionality/choices for formatting posts are gone

Yeah that is way it has been. That new stuff just got added on during the upgrade. It was never there.
On another note that problem with the unread/read posts thing, for being so small, is driving me absolutely bonkers. :0

You talking about the drop down bar that has new posts in red? It works for me, and when I view one, it disappears.

Try clearing your cache… it may be holding onto the old code before the upgrade. My list works fine, so I think it is cache.
