I recently came to another owner with a trade offer for Darren McFadden in an attempt to buy low. I am really high on McFadden but hate his situation in Oakland. So I'm torn as to what I should offer up. The other owner countered my original offer by asking for Rashard Mendenhall. I currently own Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, Mendenhall and Bernard Scott. In two more days I will also own Felix Jones after trading away Miles Austin (did I do ok?). I am always looking for more running backs and would really like to add McFadden but not at the cost of Mendenhall. My positions of need are IDP and wide receiver. I own Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Kevin Walter. My IDPs are Patrick Willis, Jon Beason, Jerod Mayo, Kirk Morrison, David Hawthorne, Shawne Merriman, Nick Barnett, Clay Matthews, and Kamerion Wimbley. What should I counter for…or should I just decline his counter altogether? He owns the following players that I covet. Percy Harvin, and Aaron Curry. Would it be out of line to counter with the following trade?
Mendenhall, Nick Barnett and Kirk Morrison for McFadden and Percy Harvin?

I would not want to swap Mendy for DMac…I would not have traded Austin for Felix either.

The way I see it…Miles Austin was a luxery and and I always stash running backs away for leverage in future trades. I would not start Austin over Andre or Calvin most weeks anyway…so I got a better bargaining chip in Felix. Jones is injury prone but I can't help get over his big play ability. If he ever stays healthy, he is a premiere playmaker. But you're probably right…Austin for Felix is probably a loss for me. I rolled the dice that he somehow stays healthy in the future.

No way I would give up Mendenhall for McFadden…even if you got Percy in the deal….I also covet Percy Harvin but it is very possible McFadden is a complete bust and Mendy has looked very strong……Your team is pretty stacked, not sure you need to do much of anything…Is this a three team league??

stop
just stop
you're going to break your team
you f'ed up giving up Miles Austin for a guy who misses 3 games when he runs out of tampons.
you give up Mendy for DMac, and you'll have 2 guys who miss 3 games when they run out of tampons.
just stop f'ing up your team. It's stupid strong as it is. Don't screw things up. You said you have IDP as a position of need, yet you have Willis, Beason, Morrison, Jerod Mayo, and a few pass rushers with upside. WTF are you going to do to improve?
just stop now. I hereby rescind your right to make any further trades.

Well, except for one – trade Felix to get Austin back. Especially since you've noted WR as a need. : )

To GM in Training,
Listen to these cats. DMAC isn't worth trading for. If he was on a different team, maybe. But Mendenhall will be FED the rock in Pittsburg. If you like Harvin then trade for him but don't give up Mendy. Honestly I'd trade Felix for him if you could. Felix is just gonna piss you off as he has Barber to contend with and he's always hurt. I would most likely trade for a WR with the talent you got. (Since you traded Austin@!#%@##%)
Then LEAVE your team ALONE! =)

Another reason I traded Austin away was to make another move. I wanted another running back so I could trade one of my running backs to another owner who is just screwed at that position. I would trade a running back (Felix sounds like a good choice by the sounds of it) for a rookie pick. And by the way, I am in a 12 team league…one that I've built my team up in trades like the ones you all are calling bad. Last year I traded Laurence Maroney, Matt Forte and Reggie Wayne for AP. That turned out to be a bad trade then but I'm glad I made it now…It's AP afterall. Among my other "boneheaded' trades…I got Drew Brees, a rookie pick (probably 1.07), and Gibril Wilson for way too much in Matt Schaub, Ryan Grant, Kevin Smith, Karlos Dansby and Tyvon Branch. Another big deal I made was Braylon Edwards, Keith Rivers, and James Laurinatis for Patrick Willis. I also got Pierre Thomas and Jon Beason for Chris Wells and Bart Scott. A lot of my studs came to my team via trades. Now I am trying to deal away depth for rookie picks.
If I get three picks in the first round, I'll be loaded with depth again next season. Til that time, I'll just let my studs take care of business.

Listen – you have a great team now 'as is'. No need to continue to make trades just for the sake of making trades. Sounds like you are playing Russian Roulette with your roster – and at some point you are going to lose. The 'depth' of your roster is a great thing to have. I'd be very cautious about trading that away just to stock up on rookie picks. There are no guarantees amidst all the hype of rookies.
It does look like you've made some nice moves – but now is the time to stand back and enjoy the rewards – and stop f'n around – like kethnaab pointed out. The only thing you seem to be short on is depth at WR - which is why I wouldn't have traded Austin for Jones in the first place.

This is funny. I actually 3 years ago put Jamal Lewis on the trading block his last year in BAL asking for "a hefty bag full of used tampons" in return. Nobody bit…
To GM: Not that we think you're making bad trades, sometimes you gotta go with your gut, we're just looking out for you. Someone just posted getting offered Lynch, Holmes, a 1st and a 2nd for Austin, which obviously is more value than just Felix. We're just saying you could've gotten more for Austin, every league has at least 1 owner who is creaming his shorts thinking of how much he wants Miles Austin and Ray Rice on his team. You have to get owners to "overpay" for guys like that, just like you "overpaid" for AP and Drew Brees:)
