In a league with limited talent available what's Jordan's value to a owner with Maroney?

Grab him if you have roster room; if you dont, someone else will.  The PATs running game is like Denvers…too hard to figure out.  Jordan has talent and could produce…he is a long shot at best.  I am planning on grabbing him in later rounds and trading him off for draft picks to Maroney owners…

See if the Maroney owner wants him as a handcuff….

I would think he's a must have for Maroney owners.  He's gettting old, but if healthy, capable of putting up great numbers in that offense.

If you have him, keep him…he’ll get the goal like carries and be used like they did C.Dillon in a RBBC.

This may sound stupid but can someone explain to me the theory behind “handcuffing”???

I still think Morris is in the mix as a GL/short yardage guy, so its really hard to handcuff Maroney in my opinion. He can also play fullback.

The Boston Globe expects LaMont Jordan's role with the Pats to be similar to the way he was used by the Jets as a change-of-pace back behind Curtis Martin.

you grab a stud RB early, then you grab his back up late in case he gets injured

i can see jordan getting a ton of carries

he’s not that old, and the pats don’t appear in love with moroney, right ?

assuming he’s not totally done, he’s got to be a decent sleeper , no ?

I got that part but, what i am trying to figure out is why would that work to your advantage… unless you “handcuff” your starters in the last few rounds… you are probly reaching for your back-up and lets say you grab your back-up and and your starter goes down… then you have a RB3 instead of a RB2 which you could pick up and get good value for halfway threw the draft and that way your not filling up your bench with “Handcuffers” lol

You handcuff your best back, usually in the last three rounds, depending on how long the draft is. Chester Taylor has to be grabbed by the 7th, he’s a great example of a handcuff who will produce like the starter if given the opportunity.

Jordan is now my favorite last pick in a draft. When the weather turns cold this guy will win a lot of championships for guys, jes m/o.

I hear you Cheesepuffs, and I'm not a huge fan of handcuffing in general. You have to pick your spots, as some handcuffs, like Chester Taylor, are known commodities and fill in without missing a beat (for the most part), so production loss is minimal.  On teams where the handcuff is unclear or a committee is likely, I avoid handcuffing since realistically the dropoff in production is so great you'd likely turn elsewhere even if you owned the handcuff.  On top of that you are burning a roster spot.  At this point I don't see Jordan as a necessary handcuff to Maroney.

I also am somewhat dubious about the concept of handcuffing.

Although, I was real happy to lock up Chester Taylor as a handcuff, in a trade the week before ADP went down. As a result I didn't miss a beat when he got hurt.

I got nervous about ADP and knew that Taylor was a stud both in 2006 and his limited role in 2007.

But, in general, I agree with X. If you do handcuff, make sure that there aren't other viable starters available before you exhaust a roster spot on a guy who can't fill in for your stud during his bye week.

Thanx “X” I'm glad i am not the only one who doesnt agree with the theory in general… and back to the cuffers, aside from AP and Chester, and i guess you could include MJD and Taylor is there another Stud RB that would require “handcuffing” ???

I'm pretty big on Ricky Williams this year and think he is a must for Ronnie Brown owners.  By now we've all heard that Brown is having trouble trusting his knee in training camp.  That doesn't sound good at all.  Read a report that said Parcells thought Williams was the best player on the field at the offseason OTA's.  I know he's 30 but it's a young 30 with all the time off and not a lot of miles on those legs.

I don't consider MJD and Taylor handcuffs, but a tandem - and to me there is a distinct difference.  To me, a handcuff is a player who would not be drafted to start (ordinarily), but rather a player taken specifically to back up a starter.  Both MJD and Taylor can be drafted independently and started - sure, they play on the same team, but I don't consider one a true “handcuff” to the other.

As for your question about handcuffs, there are actually very few in my opinion.  Other than Chester Taylor (AP), I think only Ahmad Bradshaw (Brandon Jacobs) and Jerious Norwood (Michael Turner) are worthy of being drafted as worthy handcuffs and even Norwood is borderline.  It's pretty clear they would be the starters should the primary back go down and you could assume pretty good numbers if they got the majority of the carries.  I all other cases, either the team has an RBBC or the backups are unclear/unworthy to start in the event your fantasy starter goes down.

It's only my opinion of course, but all it really means is I wouldn't waste a roster spot on grabbing a backup to the others unless the rosters were very deep or it was a keeper/dynasty league and I was drafting that “handcuff” for future production.

Awesome topic by the way.
