I am working on a deal for Romo. I am in a 10 team, 5 player keeper league, no contracts, .5 PPR, 4 pts passing TD and 6 pts rush or rec TD. We start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1K 1DST
Top 15-20 WR’s are rarely traded and are a hot commodity in this league. I am looking into trading Anquan Boldin for Tony Romo. My other keepers are Marshawn, SJAX, Roy Williams and Braylon.
In the redraft, the only QB’s being kept are Brady, Manning, Romo and Palmer. McFadden will be taken 1st and my 1st round pick is likely to be between Mendenhall, Stewart, Deangelo, LenDale, Brees, Anderson, Big Ben, Sant Holmes, Witten and players of that caliber.
Sorry for the long post, but what does everyone think I should do? I pick 6th and keep in mind, we only keep 5 players so taking a rookie only makes sense if I expect to keep him next year over one of my current keepers….

I would do this trade. I like Boldin, but I think the Cards are slowly turning into a running team. Romo is easily going to be a top 5 QB. Just from a point stand point it makes sense. Romo value revolves around TO, but Jones will get somebody else for him by next year. They will draft a WR if they don’t trade for one, and then make a big splash next year if they don’t win Superbowl. Then add in the fact Boldin gets a lot of bumps and bruises and I think this is a solid trade. Plus you got solid 2 WR already, you can draft a solid #3 who would make up the difference.
I’m in a very simular league and was thinking of trading Romo, but can’t really find a way to make it worth it. I personally wouldn’t accept Boldin for him for sure.

Great question!
Not sure Boldin will get it done for Romo but we’ve seen stranger trades announced on these boards.
There don’t appear to be any positional limits so Mendenhall or Stewart make sense @ 1.06 if available. Without knowing the proclivities of the other owners or the team needs I’d rank the players you mentioned…
Mendenhall or Stewart, Big Ben, Brees, Anderson, Holmes, Witten, LenDale, DeAngelo.
There will always be a break out WR available in these type of leagues so the #3 should be easy to fill in the first two rounds. Witten is about to officially enter stud status as a TE…injuries being the only question.
I like all four RB’s but if it were me I’d have a QB ticketed @ the 1.06 and hold onto Boldin. Romo is great, but all three QB’s you listed are close enough imo, not to matter and it give’s you a chance to lock down the #3 WR then pick up a good RB3 and WR4 which provides the depth I prefer in leagues.

QB’s usually slide in this league which makes me lean towards going for a RB or Holmes in the 1st. My thinking is that I can trade Boldin for Romo and almost def have Holmes there when I draft, so I would be looking at either
Romo, SJAX, Lynch, Braylon, Roy, Holmes or Brees/Anderson/Ben, SJAX, Lynch, Braylon, Roy, Boldin
My thinking is that option 1 gives me the chance at Romo and Holmes blowing up. I agree that the difference at QB isnt huge, but with team 2, Holmes will def not become a part of my team…

Oh and my final option may be to trade Boldin to the guy that is cutting Holmes and asking for Holmes plus a pick. He is currently planning on keeping Edge and may be undervaluing Holmes/overvaluing Boldin. He has expressed interest in Boldin in the past….
Any thoughts?

i think you trade boldin for romo here…
romo
lynch
jackson
edwards
roy
thats a solid five and without knowing any other owners five must be close to the best five…now…going into the draft you dont have to draft NEEDS with that first pick…you draft best available….in order of available id go with….mendenhall…stewart…holmes…then maybe witten to lock up your starters…good luck…

I like that 2nd option you posted. Getting Holmes plus a pick for Boldin. I agree with Tav, the QBs that are available are so close that if you can land Holmes plus the pick you’ll be looking good.
SJax
Lynch
Roy Williams
Braylon
Holmes
plus a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Or even if you can swap picks so you move up in a round or two.
For some reason I like Brees a lot this year. But I’d role the dice with him.
To your original question though….if you can get Romo for Boldin that I would do that…FarFromHome nailed it on that head, in that it gives you the flexibility now to draft whoever you want because your positions are filled.

I love the idea of having Romo, but we start 3 WR’s and I really like having 3 strong WR’s. My hang-up is wanting it all, which I kinda get if I can have Romo and Holmes rather than Brees (who may get drafted before I pick) and Boldin.

with all those rookie rbs going early…depending where you pick…holmes possibly will be available with your first…id take the aftermath of the first trade with romo and holmes…over the aftermath of the other deal with brees and holmes and a 2nd or 3rd…which would be 6th or 7th with these settings…so it comes down to would i give up a 2nd or 3rd in a keep 5 dynasty to upgrade from brees to romo…yes i would…

Do you think you’ll be able to land Romo for Boldin though? If I were the other owner I would not go for it straight up…but he may have a different opinion

He might. His keepers are Romo, LJ, Addai, Parker and Gates. If he makes this deal, he will have one solid WR to keep and can still draft a QB from Big Ben, Anderson, and Brees. In a PPR keeper league like ours nobody is willing to part with solid WR’s unless they are getting a solid WR in return. (Deals like TO for Chad happen, but I gave up Marion Barber to get Braylon)
He can either make a trade like this or keep drafting young WR’s hoping they blow up. He obviously doesn’t want to trade any of his RB’s…
