Chad practiced today and declared himself 100%.  Says he has a lot to do to make up for the people he has pissed off in the past year (those were his words).  While I'm not buying that he is 100%, i have read that they think the tear is small enough that it may he itself over the course of the season through conditioning and not require surgery at the end of the year (assuming he makes it that long).  Also can grab Hery and if Chad goes down, you get good production from him in his stead.

All that being said, at what point does Chad become undervalued?  I have one final draft today for another money league and i have been watching guys run from Chad in mocks like he has the plague.

What do you guys think for those who are drafting between now and the seasons start?

As long as chad johnson is playing for cincinatti with carson palmer as his QB, he is the #1 receiver and still a Tier 1 WR. If you can get him 3rd or 4th round, and there are no better options at WR available grab him, I don't see him being a first or second round pick this year. and I dont see him being a top4-5 pick right now from the WR spot, but I like him, and he brings explosiveness.

I'll be honest here.  I wouldn't believe a word 85 says - his perceived 100% could easily be 60% in reality.  No injury heals itself during the course of an NFL season and there's no way he's a Tier 1 WR.  He's Tier 2 at best but I do agree that he'd be a bargain in the 4th round (mid 40s overall).  I guess I'm on the other side of things - I don't really like him and see this year as another average 2007.

if 2007 was average at 1400 yards and 8tds then i’ll take that from my #1 WR in a down year.

he’s no more injury prone or injured than TJ, who’s going to go waaaay ahead of him in drafts, like 2 rounds ahead.

IMHO, fantasy football is all about upside, I try to get as many guys on my team as possible where, if you hear they scored 3 tds or had 200 yard day, you’re not all that surprised.

My apologies - his year was collectively solid, but he had 131 yds and 2 TDs in week 17 which is useless in most leagues.

As I recall, he had 2 or 3 big games and the rest were below average.  I owned TJ and he averaged a TD per game for most of the season (which is HUGE in FFL).  I would say 85 did not live up to his pre-season billing in 2007 as a Tier 1 WR.

I'm all for drafting for upside.  However, IMO, he can not be trusted as a Tier 1 receiver and I wouldn't take him before Round 4.  They're both great options but I believe that TJ warrants the higher draft status/ranking.

Just my opinion - take it or leave it.

Maybe, but it’s always tough to tell when the seondary WR will take over the top spot….I am banking on Santonio in one of my leagues to become the “guy” in pittsburgh this year, but I still grabbed Hines Ward late just in case I am waaay off. it happens, but for every reggie wayne there’s a ton of reggie williams’s….and to me, whenever I can grab a guy in a nice offense like 2-3 rounds later than the guy who lines up on the other side, thats value. which is why this eyar, I took some gambles on Marvin Harrison ( 3 rounds later than Reggie Wayne ) Laverneous ( 3 rounds later than cotchery ) … and Chad ( 20 picks lower than TJ ) …

WRS are not RBS, it’s a different animal, the same backs usually end up near the top for several eyars straight, WR switch around every year, it’s a more volatile position as it doesn’t depend on touches as much as RB production does…Braylon and Randy last year, where did they go in your drafts ?

Ocho Sinko is 30 years old, for crying out loud. He has years of top flight production left on a team thats going to toss the rock 40 times a game. Should you be concerned, of course, but I’d still take Chad over Braylon or Welker, guys that are going crazy high based off of one good year.

but thats why they call it gambling LOL

Best of luck this year !!!
