so we had our fantasy draft last night and my cousins starting receivers are Owens,Coles,Mason…i was laughing because he for whatever reason always seems to grab these old farts and they always produce for him. Anyway i was checking out Derrick Masons career stats and they are pretty damn impressive. ..700+ Receptions, 9,000 + Yards, 47TDs. If you compare his stats to Art Monk who finally got into the hall of fame they are 940 Receptions, 12,700Yards, 68TDs…if Mason has 2 or 3 years of quality football left in him i think he breaks those numbers,

what about Jimmy Smith? 862 Catches, 12,287Yards, 67TDs…..basically identical numbers to Monk without a Superbowl ring

smith may get in….MAY. The biggest difference between say Mason & Smith is/was the D’s actually had to game plan for Smith - doubtful they spent too much time worrying where mason would be. i still say monk shouldnt have made it in, but his ring pushed the votes. i’d be surprised to see mason and/or smith get voted in personally.

Whether Mason makes it in may depend on his next couple of years performance. However, I disagree with your basic premise Bio. Whether a player makes it into the HOF should not be based on whether they have any rings. I'm not saying that doesn't make a difference. It does, mainly because the voting is done by the press. But to make it dependent on that is to base the decision on the other talent on the team and the coaching — not on the talent of that player. Frankly, it is more difficult for a player to produce solid numbers when they aren't surrounded by other talent than when they are.
