With just two Monday night games to go, Week 1 of the 2008 fantasy football season is now in the rear view… so let’s get right into Week 2. Below is our Weekly Fantasy Football Stock Market Advice for Week 2. Who is on the rise? Who is on the Decline?

fantasy football player stock on the rise

Michael Turner | ATL RB

There was a reason we pimped Michael Turner over and over this off-season… in fact, we talked about him so much, we frequently got emails asking if we would stop. Clearly we didn’t, we only continued to beat a dead horse… and it’s because he is the real deal and the proof was in the production on this one. As we said in numerous articles , if you had doubt, all you needed to do was just check out his Week 5 stats against Denver in 2007, where he ran for 147 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries. And if that was not enough for you, we suggested that doubters look into his 5.5 career yards-per-carry average on 228 carries. And if that still wasn’t enough, we suggested that doubters take a look at his history of breaking off long runs, like his 83-, 74- and 73-yard runs with the Chargers (as a back-up). And if that still wasn’t enough, Turner tried to warn you himself that he was the next big thing at the running back position, breaking off runs of 63 and 52 yards against the Colts in the preseason… We even dedicated a FFX TV segment on Turner just to be sure our stance was clear… for those who believed, congrats on owning the next top 10RB that no one believed in! Don’t sell him high because he is only going to continue to impress! Welcome to the Michael Turner show, everyone! Tickets are all sold-out!

fantasy football player stock on the decline

Steven Jackson | STL RB

Steven Jackson was a huge disappointment in Week 1, rushing for 40 yards on 14 carries. He also added 3 catches for 34 yards, but the problem is that offense. The Rams look awful and Jackson could get abused in early 2008. Don’t expect things to get too much better in Week 2 against the Giants. Don’t sell low, as the runner should eventually get things going, but fantasy owners should expect a bit of inconsistency this season, as that Rams offense is just going to be hit or miss every single Sunday. If you want to acquire Jackson via trade, wait a week… he may actually get cheaper.

It stinks when you own 3 players with stock down.  On one of my three teams, I have Steven Jackson and Chad Johnson.  (Torry Holt is also on that squad.  You could've put him on the stock down as well.)  On another team, Marques Colston was a dud.  What do you think about Sjax, Ocho Cinco and Marques?  Is St. Louis bad enough, that Sjax (and T Holt) numbers with suffer?  Is Cinncinati really falling apart?  (or will they rebound in week 2?)  Does New Orleans have too many weapons?  Thanks.

Nice job, Bubba.

Well I already addressed Jackson… I still believe, he could just take a game or two to get going and will be inconsistent if that offense is playing from behind a lot.

Colston will be just fine… 300 and 3 from Brees… It just wasn't Colston's night, the targets will obviously be there. Ocho Cinco is a mystery, but I believe and he usually had some 180 and 3TD games that get his stats to where they need to be by Week 8-10.
