The last couple of days I've started recieving offers for my Owen Daniels (have Witten as my starter). One guy offered me Thomas Jones for him but I guess he got cold feet and pulled the offer off the table. Today another fella offered me Chad Ocho Retardo and Heath Miller for him. Call me crazy but I find myself not jumping at the opportunity.
Even though I've got Witten, Owen seems to be a great security blanket and a great bye week fill in. Both Chad & Heath (at least for the moment) look like dead weight. Chad's shoulder is still an issue (at least it appears to be), Palmer is hurt with an elbow problem (and is rumored he should have Tommy John surgery) and well, the Bengals just straight up suck. I've had him before too and he'd give me a huge game one week and drop a turd on me the next (and that was when he & Palmer were healthy) As for Miller, he's in a tough spot too. His O-line is in shambles as is his running game and he's been non existent in the passing game cause he's had to block like a bastard. Even when their offense was clicking he was a feast or famine kinda guy getting just a few catches and if lucky a TD here and there. To make this move I'd also have to drop somebody to make room. The only guy I would consider would be Michael Bush. While certainly doable, I was hoping to sit on him and see how he pans out. Honestly, I feel good about what I have going on now with my team having quality depth at all postions.
So what do you guys think? Am I overanalyzing this and valuing O. Daniels too high and not giving Heath and Ocho enough of a chance? Should I make the trade or pass for more reliable player in a future trade?
Thanks.

I think you may be like me, in that you don't like having “babies” on your team. I skip over TO and 85 a lot in the draft, simply because I don't want to cheer for them. But, if you are asking about value, 85 has much more than Daniels (who I love to love because I'm from Wisconsin). Furthermore, I don't know of a TE that is tougher than Witten. He knows how to rumble, and how to fall. IOW, he's unlikely to get injured. So, other than the bye week, you're going to start him week in and out. 85 will likely have a few big games this year. He's boom and bust, like you mentioned. If you only start 2WR, he's too big of a risk. But, if you start 3, then he could be that wildcard on your roster that can put you over the top for a few weeks.
Relulctantly, I make the trade for 85.

Ya make that deal. Very little risk to you and lots of upside. Witten will start week in week out as unirdna said. Miller will be a good bye week fill in and you add 85 for depth.

what other receivers do you have on your team? i would definitely trade him to upgrade other positions. you are never going to use him except for a bye week which you can probably make a one week pick up for.

Yup. Right there with you. That's why I am balking on this trade. I think Chad is a douche. I suppose he was somewhat entertaining in previous years but now he's downright annoying. On my draft board this year, I didn't even list him. Same with T.O and McGahee. Figured someone else could deal with em. Coupled with the fact that he hasn't been doing squat this year (other than run his pie hole) I'm just not feeling him, potential value and all. If anything, I think he could only piss me off. I only start 2 WR so I really don't even need him. I've got Marshall, Fitzy, Megatron and hopefully a feel good in Branch. Sounds silly but I like the chemistry of my team and the comfort and flexibilty it brings me. If I add these two cats it could ruin that. Chad is good at ruining the chemistry on his real team and he could very well ruin the mojo of mine. I do like Heath but again, he doesn't instill confidence and I can see myself dropping him for Zach Miller (who could heat up with the desire to pass more in OAK). Granted the combination of these guys far outweigh the value of Owen but is it worth it? I dunno. Right now, I don't think so. Even if Owen rides my bench the rest of the year (which I hope he does as it will mean Witten stays studly and healthy) I'd feel a hella lot better with a consistent safety net than having to deal with Chad and his unpredictable, inconsistent and annoying carcass.
I'm still mulling it over but I'm thinking I'll turn it down unless other wise persuaded.

you're obviously not playing in a $ league or even a competitive one. If you did, you would have checked your emotions at the door. Who cares if 85 is a douche? As long as he produces points, it doesn't matter.
Here's the breakdown. If you disagree, you're wrong. Owen Daniels is not much of an upgrade over Heath Miller. 85 hasn't done too much yet but has potential. If 85 strings together a few solid weeks, you can trade him and upgrade another position on your roster.

I have to agree. Even if you don't like him. the drop off from Daniels to Miller isn't much at all. There are owners out there that would trade for Ocho Stinko just because of his name. Now is the best time to buy low and see if he can turn it around. If he does have a few good games, flip him. What are you really out of if you do that???
Look, I don't like 85 almost as much as you. Almost as much as Lee Evans. But, if I were in your shoes, I'd take the offer and sit on him for a few weeks. Wait until his value goes up and trade him away. I think you'd be doing your team injustice if you don't do the deal.

No way I could turn down that trade. Plus I think your overvaluing Owen Daniels. Houston plays Baltimore in the only week you would start him which is not a good look. Having Ocho even if you don’t like him is better trade material latter. I would start Miller in week 10 over Daniels no question anyways.

Well you guys are certainly persuasive. There's no denying that the upside and talent of Ocho clearly out trumps Daniels especially that I have Witten. And yes, even though I think Ocho is a dink, that should not sway my decision. The current health of Palmer does worry me though. If I want to pull the trigger on this trade, I have to drop M. Bush too to make room so that's what I'd have to lose other than a solid backup if Witten goes down (which is unlikely but certainly possible). In closing, if you think that Ocho/Miller for Daniels/Bush is more than reasonable than I'm in. I'll just have to find another RB in week 9 as R. Bush & Gore are on byes.
