My friends have all made it abundantly clear just how incredible fantasy football is, I am just wondering why? What is it that makes fantasy leagues so incredible? I am going to put a team together for my first time this season, I just want to know what I am getting myself into. Is it the money or what?

Dude, if you're in this for the “money” ya might want to do something else. I don't think it's money that drives any one of us in here to play FF. It's the total love for the game and friendly competition among your boys that draws us. Oh, and the weekly smack talk that goes on to boot!

yea if you love the game and players it's awesome, the fact you can put together a team of players you pick and then on game day see their stats and how they produce for your team

Good question. Personally for me it's a few things. I love the game of football and play more for pride than money. I love being an owner and putting a team together from scratch(I love the drafts) & taking over a team and re-building to contention. Also trying to find that player that is your diamond in the rough, before others do. And being a huge sports fan love how playing fantasy football is once a week and all the marbles are on that one sunday afternoon. Enough said… Forgot to add I love to trade LOL

Welcome indeed.
In the leagues in which I particapate, the only money that changes hands is everyone kicking in their share of the league fees and trophy costs. The rest is the friendly (?) competion and the vainglorious trash talk.
We are going to institute a new keepsake for league champions… Super Bowl Rings. That way even though they might lose the trophy in succeeding years, they can still wave their rings under everyones noses at league functions.
For me, it took me about half of my first season (2004) to realize that my fantasy teams mean more to me than the Rams. That year I was miserable when my second draft pick, Marshall Faulk, began losing playing time to Steven Jackson and I was equally unhappy when Holt stole fantasy points from my guy Isaac Bruce. By 2005 I had absolutely no inhibition about starting one of my players against the Rams DST and rooting had for him to light up the score board. I still want the Rams to win, but, I want my fantasy teams to win in a much worse way.
Fantasy Football has forever changed how I watch football and I love it.

For me it is very simple Trash Talk. I love talking trash with my friends. Watching a football game and having players on a serious team makes every game more exciting. When you start making an interest in teams you would never cared about it makes Sunday go by faster.
Money is really nice also for me, but not reason I play. I did really well this year, and bought a TV. Nothing beats having my friends over and telling them thanks for playing, I couldn’t of got it without you.LOL

What are you getting yourself into: Heres a list of things you can look forward to (no particular order)
1) a whole lot of restless Saturday nights - do i play him? off course I play him? No way they're playin the….
2) injuries - you will find that there is a whole new meaning to the phrase “He's hurt”, “He's down,” and/or “He's not getting up.”
3) One of my favorite things about Fantasy Football is you get to predict the future. Everyone likes to be Mrs. Cleo once and while.
4) the draft - where all of your off season hard work can be flushed right down the drain in 1 wrong move (stay somewhat sober if u can)
5) C__sporstline - hopefully sooner then later you'll find out that they don't know ****!
6) If you win it all - thats the 1 and only time your allowed to say that cheesy line “Show me the Money”
7) Perfect Scenario for SHMACK TALKING - Your at a bar and your boy is trying to kick game to some chick. You walk up and an easy way to come in for the kill is just bring up the fact that he only scored 60 points against you this week and you kicked his *** by a hundo. Tell him to beat it and scram because know one around here likes to hang out with losers. Then you say to her, ain't that right babe? Now buy me beer.
Did i mention that know one likes to be a loser.

The reason I ask is because I work for Pay The Fan. It is the only type of fantasy play that I have engaged in because I don't really have the time to dedicate my sun-mon watching to see how my roster did. I am still going to join a fantasy league or two this year and give it a shot, I just wanted to know what you thought the differences are between sites like paythefan.com and sites like Yahoo!Fantasy?

You work for paythefan and you ask the first question. Then you want to know the difference between the sites…now I’m a bit skeptical
What do you do at paythefan?

Really don’t have to watch to see how your team does. The stats are all that matter and the sites usually show the updates stats after games are over. You would just have to change your lineup before the games started.

I just started as an intern for paythefan, the reason I asked the first question is because I have never done typical fantasy leagues. The only leagues or type of play I have done is paythefan. That’s why I am trying to gauge the differences in the two.

Bragging rights, trying to watch every game on sun/mon/sat/and sometimes thurs (t.v., internet, phone etc), trash talking and making your friends look like little women. Thats why i play. Plus Football just a great sport to watch.
