This from Pete Dymeck:
Arizona and Pittsburgh appear to be enamored with RB Michael Turner but neither have the cap room to sign him. The New Orleans Saints are the front-runners for Turner's services.

hmmmm….the saints….hmmmm….at first i didnt like to hear that team….but then i realized you know they prolly realize that reggie bush is a nice weapon but not a lead back….give bush 5 carries a game and line him all over the place…bring in turner to give him 20 carries and the goal line….what about duece though? i just dont see the saints spending the money for some reason…interesting idea if they would just cut duece….man football has become so cutthroat…

Yea, you never want your RB to land on a team with a big name RB already on the roster, but it could definitely workout if he did land there. I have a feeling it will be CHI, CIN or still SEA, despite what the team says about Alexander. CHI seems fitting given he is from there, and they aren't high on Benson at all.

Best part is that all those teams have decent OL's.

This is true. Also, don't think for a second Turner wants to go somewhere where he won't get the carries… nor would a team pay him the big bucks not to be the full-time 20-carry back. All those concerns that Turner owners have will take care of themselves..

I saw my Steelers were interested and I almost fainted.
then I realized their cap issues, and I began to cry.
I've been calling for the Steelers to get a big bruiser since Bus left. Turner would certainly make for a nice combo with FWP.
Heck, I'd even draft the both of them as handcuffs and play them both every week. Talk about guaranteed production, although I think Turner's ceiling is higher than FWP's by a pretty substantial margin

I'd still rather see him in a few other situations, but this could work like you said, no doubt.

Big Saints fan here, but I can't see how they could make it work(Bush, Deuce, Turner, Thomas) thats a lot of roosters in the henhouse. I would have loved to see him end up in Cleveland….best case scenario IMO. Not looking like that's going to happen now with Lewis extending his contract. Now I am hoping for Cincy or Houston. Not a big fan of him ending up in Chicago as much as some of you on this thread though. No QB, Berrian leaving…..the team seems to be in total disarray. If he is the only real weapon, won't it be too easy for defenses to key in on him and reduce his fantasy potential?
PS – Love the forum Smitty, thanks for pointing me to it.

Agreed, seattle would be nice if SA is cut.

SEA, HOU, CIN (if Rudi is cut)… all three are great. CHI could be and I'd be fine with it, but just don't like that Benson is there making all that money. AZ would be solid, as the Cards will start running the football with more authority… just hope that the coaching staff doesn't get fired if they screw 2008 up… that staff will build this offense like PIT, which means run, run, then pass.

The cap hit would be roughly 6 million if they cut Shaun now. If they waited till June it could be spread over 2 years.
That being said, do you guys think Turner will sign rather quickly (ie. a few minutes after midnight) or let a handful of teams schmooze him? Give him the grand tour and what not. What do you see happening?
San Diego Tribune is reporting that Bears, Saints, and Lions have a strong interest in signing Turner.

I think it will happen before the draft seaney, but it could still be several weeks.
As far as Seattle dropping SA, an update on rotoworld today makes that sound far less likely now, if it's true. Looks like we are down to Cincy, Houston, Detroit, NO, Chicago, and Arizona. Personally, I think NO and Arizona are a bit of a stretch. Hoping for Cincy or Houston. Fingers crossed
Smitty, is it my imagination or does this list of possible landing sites seem to be getting longer not shorter.

I think it would be a nice 1-2 punch with Turner (Thunder) & Norwood (Lightning). Then they could go after Matt Ryan with that number 3 pick! Or they could trade the pick to the Cowboys who could select McFadden.
Wonder why Atlanta hasn't been involved in the Turner speculation.
Free Agency is about to open! EXCITING!

Decent. Atlanta is yet another solid fit.

It is a long list and it isn't getting smaller (except that CLE is now out of the picture). There are so many teams in need, I can't even remember all of them half the time when I post about landing spots… forgetting to list Atlanta is an example of that.
Look, Adam Schefter said it best today on NFL Radio (I believe it was NFL Total Access, being played on NFL Radio)… He said that this saturated rookie RB class, which is deep, will have no effect on Turner. It will hurt second tier type rushers like Julius Jones, but Turner has the size, power, fresh legs and some of the longest runs in Charger history… and he has a handful of the Chargers 11 longest.
Bottom line here Xtremers is this… if you think he hasn't shown you enough, just look to his Week 5 outing last year against the Broncos, where he had 147 yards rushing on just 10 carries, including the two longest runs of the season against the Denver Broncos, 49 and 74 yards.
Not enough? Let me guess, Denver… bad rushing defense… ok, how about his 5.5 career YPC average. Believe in him, those of you that don't!

I blew this off earlier, but I think it is actually picking up speed. I have a friend who has very good conections with the Seahawks, and talks to the players here and there. Word on the street is they are hot after MBIII, and then would release Shaun Alexander. The rumor is the Cowboys might sign Turner first crack and then trade MBIII for picks to Seatle, or keep MBIII to pair with Turner.
I originally heard this rumor very early today, and I totally thought it was a reaction to me giving him crap about Hackett leaving. I really think from him sticking to this story which he rarely does that this might have a little legs to it. Then Rosenhouse said Seatle was a player for MBII on ESPN.
From what I am hearing though the one thing that is consistent is the Cowboys trying to sign Turner early. Wether to run with MBIII if they don't get the compensation they want, or to be the feature back with a rookie. They do get a first round pick from Seatle though that gives them a lot of draft fire power.
Make a long story short I think Turner gets signed very early.
