I have to say, not happy at all with my WRs. I like them, but I like them if they are all fighting for my WR2-5 spots. I'm completely fine with Evans, Chambers and Porter battling for the #2 and #3 spots, but missing a true #1 hurts.

That said, I think this team is solid, but if I could do anything over again, I'd draft a WR in the 2nd and go RB/RB in the third- and fourth-rounds.

I'm normally a RB/RB guy, and I talk that strategy up a ton, but if your league is a 3WR required league like this one is, you may want to consider getting yourself at least one big gun at the position in that second-round. I love the rushers that I have, though. Palmer is going to be a beast this year as well.

Line-up:

Carson Palmer
Brian Westbrook
Maurice Jones-Drew
Michael Turner
Lee Evans
Chris Chambers
Jerry Porter
Vernon Davis
(Watson)

Good job Smitty!!! Not like there were a bunch of lightweights in that group. ;) Had it been a league I think you would have been happier than you know. The added flex to go along with standard scoring and the 1QB, 2RBs, 3WRs, (1 Flex) starting requirements would have made it a bit more chaotic (for some teams) when it came to WR3 and the flex but you would have been able to plug in a clear #1 in each instance. Having Watson as an option to Davis would have helped as well. After looking at it more closely, you did a great job!!!

You are really stepping up the pace with leagues and mocks…

This mock will be in Rotoworld's August Magazine, so we're going to hold off listing the entire mock.

Look for it in the mag!

I have to say there are possibly 4 guys in this draft that fared well and really strategized in advance.

Greg Ambrosius of FantasySports Magazine  IMO has started out the best with the position he received.

He seemed to have targeted safe TD threats in Addai and Edwards. I'm quite surprised that John Tuvey got away with grabbing Colston Yet I guess you have all the luck drafting first. Also doing well was Ryan Houston. He along with you Smitty solidified your PPR game.

On the negative, are two experts that could have used a second opinion. John Hansen shot out and went for the big names on two teams that lack the offense. AJ is great as is Gore but the have to things in common, lack of TDs (last year) and here's the big one… Injuries! Both players are very prone to having trouble below the waist.

Secondly Paul Hickey, this guy must be a Pats fanatic cause of Laurence Maroney. Why? He had a wide choice of RBs (mojo) to choose from yet went the route of the Belichick bermuda triangle. There's always DMC, Turner, heck even Lewis is wiser not being in a RBBC.

All in all Smitty with what you got you did well. I'm very interested to see how the outcome of your wideouts happened. I love the Chambers pick though. Something tell me you felt the toe of certain TE ain't clickin either, lol.

The WRs dried up QUICK and if I could go back, i take a WR instead of Palmer, especially seeing how far Roethy fell. He is right up there with Palmer and I suffered at WR due to the pick. I mean, I think I could win with this team, as I see huge seasons out of Turner and MJD. I think My RBs (Westy too) would be huge in this format and Palmer is a stud. I just lack that true WR1, as Chambers, Evans and Porter are all WR2 or WR3s at best. I think Evans will surprise, but I still would have liked to have at least a Boldin. Strange that one WR didn't fall to my 4th round pick that would have made me pass on Palmer.

I disagree.  The “injury prone” argument always makes me shake my head - I don't exactly know what that means and why a past injury should matter if the guy is healthy now.  Aren't all players who play this game prone to injury, or is it just the guys who have had it happen before?  LT, AD and Jackson were all dinged up last season, yet there they all are at 1-2-3.

If we are talking Gates, Scheffler, Marshall - yeah, I can see that because we don't really know if they are fully healed yet, so there is some risk.  Johnson and Gore are, therefore we should simply rank them based on what we think their potential is - I don't happen to think either are reaches where they were taken.

Totally agree.  I think Maroney is a horrible pick at 2.05 and any one of the RBs you mention would have been better.

I too feel the Maroney pick was a fudge.  I'm pretty stoked that you were able to get him with the two others passing on him.  I TRULY believe the torch will be passed on to him this season and he's gonna light it up!  Sure, you'll see Taylor in there every now and again, but it's Mojo's backfield now, and the guy catches the passes too!  Gotta love it!

Yea, I like MJD a lot. He is the perfect RB2 in dynasty formats.

i guess I missed it, but where the boogers are the rest of the draft picks? I only see rounds 1-2

and I’m still not an MJD believer. I think you would’ve been better going Colston in the 2nd then grabbing Turner in the 3rd (you know he’ll be available, and you’ll end up the better.

3x receivers + flex means you want 3 #1 WRs to keep your totals normal.

Picking as late as you did in the 2nd, ESPECIALLY, you have to snatch up a WR, and you may want to grab a pair in the early 3rd round, depending upon what is available. There is a boatload of young talent this year that is going later and later, and the true stud WRs are drying up faster and faster.

There are a few mock draft sites that I live at, and I honestly swear, between this place and those other 2 draft places, I’ve done several hundred mock drafts (10-15 daily, usually), and I’m telling you, the only time I even consider going RB/RB anymore is when I pick late in the 1st, and the big 3 are already off the board by the time my pick in the 2nd round rolls through (Moss, Wayne, TO)

Turner is available late 3rd almost always. Jamal Lewis is sitting there in the 3rd/4th usually. Is Jamal going to do that much better than Thomas Jones or DMac or J-Stew? Probably not. They’ll be sitting around 4th-5th round (Redraft, not dynasty)

Seriously, unless someone happens to fall inexplicably to me, RB/WR is the way I’ve gone in my drafts and I end up having guys fall to me that surprise me. I don’t mind hoarding half a dozen RBs in the later rounds anymore, especially when I have “guaranteed” targets up front.

But we’ve argued this one to death before. Your strengths are numerous Smitty. In addition to getting a top QB who will rebound, you have 3 RBs who will get 300 touches/10 TDs, so there are your RB/flex options.

I do, however, laugh and point at yet another silly fellow who falls for the Lee Evans hype. *laughs and points*

I like Chambers this year though, I think he’ll do you just fine, and you took a serious risk with Vernon Davis.

Vernon.
We get it.
You look good with your shirt off.
Now catch a few TDs, mmmkay?

Realistically speaking, I’ve read rumblings that Martz is simply going to line him up like a wideout (think David Boston) and use him as such, rather than in a conventional TE manner. Why have him run all these complex curls and hooks when the guy is a brute with burner speed? If he’s stupid, just tell him to run in a straight line and catch the ball!

I’m interested to see the entire draft.

Kethnaab, this mock will be in Rotoworld's magazine coming out in August, so we won't be posting the entire thing until the Mag comes out.

Yea, as I've said, looking back, I would go WR in the third or second, but still like the power our line up would have. Again, this is just a mock, not a league.

Yeah, if it was a league you take a little less risk.  Chambers and Porter both should do better then most think.  I think Porter has a nice year this year.  Not sure how I feel about Porter long term, but I think he has a lot to prove this year.  Overall the team is not bad.  If a real team and your faith in Turner, I'm sure a nice trade for a #1 WR could be worked out if was needed.  One thing I have noticed with the “experts drafts” you participate in Smitty you really excell in the trading department.  Not a bad team though.
