Potential Draft Day Steals – 2009 Fantasy Football
1. Tom Brady | QB NE
Current ADP: 2.11 – 3.12 (view ADP)
Smitty’s Rank: Top 15 overall worthy
How is Tom Brady, who is currently valued as a top three fantasy quarterback, number one on my list of draft day steals? Draft value! It all comes down to draft value! After Brady’s record-breaking 2007 campaign, where he threw for 4,806 yards and 50TDs, he became a first-round grab in 2008. Brady didn’t have amazing draft value back in 2008 because first-round quarterbacks have to throw for 40+ touchdowns in order to earn that value. It wasn’t that Brady couldn’t have delievered on that touchdown total if he had been healthy, but 40+ would have just earned his first-round draft slot, not exceeded it. Given that Brady has the potential to jump right back into that 40+ touchdown role, and given that he is falling into the third-round in most early drafts, the Patriots QB is looking like a bargain grab this season. His current ADP is higher here at FFX than any place else (2.11), but it’s safe to say that the passer could fall into that 25-30 overall range in most August drafts. Dynasty league owners should attack Brady before Week 1, when he proves that he is back to form.
2. Ronnie Brown | RB MIA
Current ADP: 2.11 (view ADP)
Smitty’s Rank: Top 10RB worthy
I talk a lot about why Ronnie Brown is a must-own in 2009…
