trade involving Graham, Housh, Forte and a few other possibilities

Rosters QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, K, DEF, no flex.

Scoring is low-QB (25/4/-2), 1:10:6 for all other yards and TDs. There are 2 points of interest, however

1) 0.5 PPR
2) 1:20 for return yardage for EVERYONE, not just DST

so here’s our rosters:

me
QB Philip Rivers/Jake Delhomme (meh)
WR Reggie Wayne, Housh, Roddy White (Devin Hester, Josh Cribbs, Andre Davis) (quite pleased)
RB Clinton Portis, Matt Forte (Jonathan Stewart, Jerious Norwood) (suitably pleased - return yards count!)
TE Chris Cooley

him
QB Carson Palmer (Eli, Kitna) (very good)
WR Braylon Edwards, Calvin Johnson, Donald Driver (Reggie Brown, Tedd Ginn) (I like CJ2 2008 for Santonio Holmes 2007 #s)
RB Brian Westbrook, Ronnie Brown (Earnest Graham, Justin Fargas)(I like Graham this year)
TE Heath Miller (meh)

Now he originally offered me Tedd Ginn, Earnest Graham and Kitna for Housh and Matt Forte.

obviously that was his way of saying “I want Housh, let’s work something out”, it obviously wasn’t a real trade offer.

Now, I am unhappy with my QB situation which is low priority. I am moderately happy with my RB situation, and I’m totally pleased with my WRs.

I have come up with a few ideas because I like Graham as a steady #2 in the event that Stewie ends up injured, Forte ends up a bust and Turner ends up exploding. I also like Graham because, well, I think he has another darn good season left in him.

One possibility which I am less than ecstatic with:

He gives up: Graham + Calvin Johnson + Kitna
I give up: Housh + Jerious Norwood

This is a risky proposition for me because Norwood returns kicks and assuming he gets similar workload this year (100 carries from scrimmage, catches a few passes and returns 50ish kicks), he’s 10 ppg for me. Of course, the risk also is that I’m giving up a proven commodity (Housh) for a guy like CJ2 who could possibly explode, but probably won’t do more than about 60/900/8 as an upside this year.

But I get Graham, and he really did good things for me last year.

I’m torn offering this trade.

I’d go Graham + Calvin in return for Forte + Roddy White in a heartbeat, but I don’t think he’d go for that, I think he wants Housh.

Should I maybe ask for Justin Fargas instead of Kitna? Last year, in this scoring system, Kitna only averaged 15 PPG, and Rivers was less than a point off that. I can’t see Kitna getting much better and Rivers getting much worse, plus if Delhomme comes back, he could be a real nice value and I could play matchups with Rivers and Delhomme.

Thoughts/ideas? I feel REAL REAL wary about giving up Housh in a 0.5 PPR, but Graham’s contract = “you have a year to get what you can from us”. He had 211 points last season in this scoring system, and his performance over the course of the entire season last year translates out to about 1450 YFS, 12 TDs, 60 catches, which would be HUGE this year, a good 250ish points, at least as much as Housh from last year (Which may have been a career year for Housh). A healthy Jeff Garcia makes it tougher this season as he probably will be able to do a bit more with less focus.

I sent him a quick counter of his CJ2+Graham for my Forte+Roddy White in the event he bites (Which I don’t think he will) but I included a note stating something to the effect “If Housh comes in, then you need to be prepared to PAY for him, i.e. Graham + CJ2 for Housh straight up or if Forte is in, then Carson Palmer is also”, something like that

just to let him know. This should be interesting to hear what others think of this.

Wow… that might be the longest post I've ever taken the time to read :)

I'm not high on Graham even after the new contract, but if you can get him for a good price he would be more than adequate to fill in for you while you wait out Forte and Stewart.  If you are going to give up Housh to get him, I like the idea of getting CJ2 back - he's a guy who could meet or beat TJ's numbers in a year or two.

None of the trade scenarios excite me.

Your QB’s are better than you think.
I would not touch Kitna ~ it’s only a matter of when before Stanton takes over this year.
Fargas ~ if a total boom/bust candidate this year, imo. Has less value next year.
Graham ~ he does have at least one good year left, only a K.Jones rumor has started that links him to TB.

Your RB’s are weak but you should get by.
Your WR’s are strong and you’ll be starting Cribbs weekly.
You weaken your WR’s by trading Housh and only temporarily strengthen your RB’s. If one of the rooks is a consistent low end #2 you’d never be able to trade the other for a WR to replace Housh.

I’d sit tight before you trade yourself out of contention..m/o

PS: if you can pull off getting CJ2 back, as X suggests, that’s one I’d go for…but doubt he will…Driver is the more likely offering. (which I’d pass on)
