Now, with Rex Ryan in NYJ camp these days, one would assume Scott will reprise his role in New York. Scott is solid in pass coverage and the blitz. The question is, does Scott take tackles away from Harris, or does he force the offense to commit blockers his way, allowing Harris to roam a bit more?
I think this could actually help Harris. Scott definitely should see a bump, as he won’t have to contend with Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs stealing the tackles.
I wonder if this will provide a bit of a cushion for Calvin Pace off the edge, especially if Ryan starts using Scott on the blitz a bit more? It might open things up for Pace.
The Jets now have a pretty solid LB corps, with Calvin Pace, Bart Scott and David Harris.

Does this make Eric Barton (LB),NYJ a better keeper than N.Barnett (LB),GB or G.Brackett (LB),IND ?

I can't find the link now but I read earlier that Rex said he was going to use Scott in a "Ray Lewis type of role" and that David Harris would be taking on more blockers.
Also, will Rex be able to salvage the mess that was Gholston? He has the physical tools to be a Suggs type of player but he didn't show it last year at all.

Barton is a free agent I think.

48 mil sounds expensive to me. Anyone care to explain why Scott is worth the contract? I've looked at the numbers. I still don't get it.

The only money in a contract that matters is the guaranteed money – which is usually the bonuses. Like Haynesworth deal, there is a poison pill of a roster bonus due in 5 years, in the meantime, it's 48M for 4 years with 30 something guaranteed.
Any dead money is accounted for by an expected raise in the cap or by the expected absence of the cap. (my limited understanding)
