RB Marion Barber: DAL offers two first-round picks and M. Barber for #1?

FFX: According to ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys may be interested in offering both their 2008 first-round picks and possibly RFA Marion Barber for the #1 overall pick. FANTASY: It’s unclear how concrete this is just, but it’s widely know that Jerry Jones loves Darren McFadden. Keep in mind that Marion Barber is a free agent and would need to be signed to a long-term deal for this to occur, but the addition of Marion Barber to this deal is still kind of cloudy. Wow is all we can say. Fantasy-wise, this would kill Ronnie Brown’s value (and Barber’s, if in MIA), if Barber were involved - McFadden would be an absolute beast in Dallas all by himself. Top 10 numbers wouldn’t be out of the question. You can bet we will keep you posted on this one!

Let’s hear it!

Obviously it seems like a lot, but is it? Given Barber is a RFA and will command a big deal, is McFadden worth it?

What would this do to Ronnie Brown’s value and Marion Barber’s? It would have to hurt both a ton, but how bad? Would Miami even do this? Would they want something else in place of Barber, thus allowing Brown to keep his value safe, McFadden to boom in Dallas and Barber to roam elsewhere to explode as well?

Hit it!

It’s the most ridiculous trade I’ve heard of in a while. There is no way McFadden is worth this….none. …reminds me of the Ricky Williams/Herschel Walker trades.

Dallas already has an Pro Bowl RB in Barber…who earned the honor in part time duty…we are still talking potential. I believe this trade would cripple the Dallas franchise for years….instead of building the kind of team depth needed to get to numerous Super Bowls.

In Miami, if I’m Parcell’s I ask for Carpenter and Fasano (for conditional picks next year) as well. I’d prefer Barber signs an extension before completing the trade but the franchise tag is a no lose situation in this case. Add in the two first rounders and Parcell’s can stay in Miami for the draft and he can just about leave with his “legend” intact. He’ll have rebuilt another franchise, in one year instead of the usual two. There would also be the usual “Parcell’s guys” FA signings, and the rest of the draft picks to flesh out a roster that gets close to 8-8 next year.

Fantasy wise…both backs (B&B) would retain value as #2 RB’s, as the Miami offensive line is a strength. Imo, they’d both be within the top 20 RB’s. With Barber and Brown I can imagine the Dolphins going old school with a rookie QB managing the game, the running backs being used to exhaust teams (close to 30 carries for most games), and the D getting an infusion of talent to prevent blow-outs and maintain the run game as viable.

In Dallas…just my opinion…but McFadden never lives up to the hype, or the expectations…more due to the situation than talent.

First off I’ll agree this would be a bad trade for Dallas. You’re giving up way way too much.

That said, I have the opposite take as Tav on this fantasy wise. For miami, they have already traded away anyone who could catch the ball with any consistency. With Brown and Barber splitting time on a horrible offense I’d expect them to see more 9 man fronts then even AP will see next year. Combine that withthe fact each will see only part time action and I cant see either cracking the top 20 for RBS. The only exception is I’m still not sold on Brown being able to finish a season healthy even sharing time so if he went down Barber may put up top 15 numbers.

For Dallas and Run DMC this would be huge fantasy wise. You’re coming into close to an ideal situation for a RB. You have a Probowl QB, WR, TE, and O-line working with you. Defenses are NOT going to be keying on you. You also have an pretty damned good line opening holes for you. I never thought McFadden would have a AP type year but if this trade happens I could see him having a better year.

Just my thoughts, but I’d be drooling over the #1 pick if this happened

I just want to give a huge thank you to the staff here, esp Tav, for mentioning (mid-season) that this would probably happen. I am in a league where no one trades away anyone elite, esp WR’s. I made a deal just before the trade deadline last year that revolved around me giving up MB3 and getting Braylon Edwards.
Based on Tav mentioning that Jerry Jones was really planning on trying to get McFadden, I made the deal and now have a solid 2 RB and 3 WR that I am keeping in a 5 player keeper league.

If Miami does this, what does that say about Brown’s recovery?
It takes a year anyway to fully recover, so that side of it makes sense. But then again couldn’t Miami just choose MCFadden themselves? If he is ‘all that’ then trade ronnie brown later, or use a RBBC!

I have to say, I think McFadden would be a beast in Dallas as the main man.

Both Miami rushers would be huge disappointments, but maybe bargain values? That is TBA, but bottom line is this move would hurt a ton in fantasy football.

Barber going elsewhere completely, Dallas getting McFadden and Miami getting the draft picks and something else not Barber… that is the best situation for fantasy.

McFadden will live up to expectations if you ask me, especially in Dallas, but this can be debated. Nice takes everyone! Very interesting how many different takes we have on this already with a limited amount of people weighing in already.

It takes a RB one full year of playing on the recovering knee before it is even CLOSE to 100%. They can start playing at 8 or 9 now, but that is if there are not setbacks and it isn’t a good idea to say the least. In this league, though, these guys take the risk playing on these injuries prematurely because they don’t want to lose their jobs… understandable, but anyone that says they will be fully recovered in 9 months is just blowing smoke to keep everyone optimistic. That doesn’t mean he wont play a full season at 70%.

As for Miami drafting McFadden, I doubt they consider it. The reason Dallas doesn’t just trade for the #3 pick, as Miami and STL don’t need runners, is for several reasons..

1. Miami could trade down and Dallas doesn’t want to trade up to a top 5 pick to find a team step in ahead of them
2. The 3-5 picks will be decided by coin toss, so those aren’t locked in yet

I believe Brown will be fine. I expect him to be up to speed about week 8 of next year. Miami getting McFadden doesn’t begin to address all their needs; two first rounders plus an RB like Barber (this is Parcells’ demand) allows Miami to give Brown the time to come back fully healthy while getting a couple of starters (3 to be exact) that Miami can plug and play right away. Based on Parcell’s ability to draft quality players when he’s in this position it would be an instant fix (combined with his former players, now FA’s who always seem to join him).

One thing Parcell’s knows is how badly Jones wants McFadden.

I think pretty much everything on this topic has been touched upon. I do think Dallas would be making a huge mistake by doing this deal and I can’t imagine it will happen. Granted McFadden is supposed to be the next greatest RB but that is a huge price to pay and risk to take for an unknown. Plus the amount of money Dallas would have to shell out to the top overall pick. If Jerry Jones did this, it won’t be long before he’s looking for another coach to come in and clean up his mess again.

Fantasy wise, yes McFadden’s value would be huge compared to being drafted by say the Raiders.

I think this trade would give Miami flexibility to bring Brown back slowly and ensure he is healthy. I think they would both have productive years. As for the QB, Parcells rarely trusts his teams to young/rookie QBs so I would see them trying to get a vet in there to compete until they find their long term solution at QB.

This is just crazy. Hey, I’d love the idea of McFadden going to Dallas, but for the Cowboys to give up this much is just insane. If this happens, Ol’ Man Jones goes into the same category as Al Davis…and maybe into the same nut house!

this would for sure help Mia more than Dallas,Mia needs a lot of help all over the place, the draft picks would be more important as Barber…they need to start by getting themselves a center piece for the Offense a QB…lot of work to be done there

I think after Jerry watched his Superbowl hopeful team lose to the Giants, He has decided to make the suicide run at the Superbowl. I mean there only weak spot was putting spit backs on the field. If they could land a Tomlinson,Peterson like kinda player in Mcfadden. I think Jerry is chompin at the bit to cash in those 1st rounders and ship off a good Barber for a Mcfadden Stud. And they will be there next year.

what bugs me most is dallas doesnt even need a runner barber can handle that position fine with TO and witten both back… dallas already has an amazing offence you know the old saying if it aint broke dont fix it
dallas’s secondary is the dumps they need help BAD
jerry is just being jerry not addressing the teams true weakness
but god dammit think about all the mcfadden jerseys we would sell
if he was trying to make a run at the superbowl he would sign sameul and get roy williams out of coverage casue that guy gets burned way to often
JERRY WORST THEN A SPOILED KID
