Grant in jeopardy?

I’ve heard and seen several reports saying the Packers are def. in the market for a RB in the draft. If the Packers use a 2nd/3rd round pick on a RB, how would this effect Ryan Grant’s value this season and for the future?

GB would roughly have these RB’s available in that range: Jamaal Charles, Chris Johnson, Kevin Smith, Steve Slaton, Ray Rice, Matt Forte…and not necessarily in that order. GB has to prepare for life after Favre so an RB makes sense. I don’t think they are too high on Brandon Jackson.

All that said it’s too early to downgrade Grant based on speculation. Of the rookie RB’s mentioned only one or two would portend an eventual RBBC, IF they pick up blitz assignments easily and can catch a ball out of the backfield.

Grant is a 3 down back, imo his future looks bright no matter what.

Always trust a fan Analyst…I’ll adjust to go with FavreMoss’ read on it.

I doubt Grant isn’t the clear starter, but stranger things have happened. Really, every single running back is at risk this year of seeing a top rookie land on their roster. This draft is so deep, RBs will be bargains late and many teams will grab one given the cost. I see at least 2-3 situations happening this year where fantasy RB values get altered or a bit more cloudy. Like Oakland landing another back, or Dallas or other… some backs will get taken late given the cost.

They already have a plethora of young talented backs. Do they really need to add another one? Once Grant got his shot (via injuries to Jackson and Wynn) he never looked back. He had an avg of 5.2 yards per carry. Only the 2 guys in PURPLE can say they averaged more yards and obviously one of them didn’t even play as a starter. Have you seen Grant hit a hole? The guy is explosive. Once he finds a seem and makes his cut he’s gone like the wind. I couldn’t tell you how many times he scored with absolutely no defenders around him whatsoever. IMO, for them to take carries away from him would not be a very smart move at all.
