I’m not surprised at all. I’ve been warning Moss owners of this all last year. He is going to go to a team for money and not care again. He still is to valuable to be traded in fantasy. Ravens could be interesting. I could see Eagles making a play. I’m not sure of those two teams cap, but Patriots will have to have him take a cut to come back and sacrafice defense for it.

I’m not saying Ravens is a good fit, just would be interesting to see how people freak out.

Word has it that he already has a deal that he agreed to but they can not sign anything official until the new NFL year starts 2/29/08. I fully expect that he will resign with the Pats.

WR Randy Moss not tagged by New England?
FFX: According to ESPN.com, the New England Patriots do not place the franchise tag on WR Randy Moss. FANTASY: While this is a bit shocking, there are rumors floating around that a long-term deal is already in place, but the team can’t officially announce anything until the end of this month. Stay tuned. Oh, and this news might lower Moss’ value a touch and we recommend that you take advantage of this if the price is right.

Also, just because he isn’t tagged, that doesn’t mean the team won’t get him back at all. Why would Moss leave? Money? Maybe, but he finally found a home and they didn’t win. Moss prob wants to win a Super Bowl as much as he wants cash… he gets the ball a ton, something he couldn’t find for quite some time. If NE had one, I could see him MAYBE wanting to prove some things, but NE is a lock to get near that Super Bowl ring. He won’t leave… No way.

I know there was a hang up with the date. I’m with canopener, I see him there for a few years.

They want him there, he loves it, they will pay him enough I think, as they traded for him and obviously want what he has to offer. Without Moss, they aren’t near as good IMO.
Moss will have 15TDs again, at least, in 2008 if in NE. I trade for him now in leagues where many are freaking out.

I’m not a Moss owner, but I did just deal Carson for Brady, so my hope is Moss stays in NE. If he leaves, what does it do to Brady’s value in the top 5? Would he automatically drop below Peyton and possibly Romo or Carson?

He could. While 23-28 td’s were his range, Welker alone should get him to 30. He’ll be among them, not necessarily below.

Welker is a product of Moss and an OLine that required a blitz (aka zone LBs). If 1) people figure out how to get pressure without sending 6 guys (which the Giants did not just because of a great DLine but because of great game-time prep by the DC for at snap adjustments) or 2) Moss leaves, then I think Welker goes back to average slot WR. Moss is the key. If Moss leaves, I place Brady 5th at best.

All the above said, Moss won’t leave and teams will have hell figuring out how to get pressure. Brady is 3rd at worst in QB scoring this year.

I agree, Brady takes a huge hit w/out Moss. Look what Moss did for D. Culpepper’s career. Turned a good QB into a great QB. Last year he took a great QB to a record-breaking QB. I think Moss will be there for another 3 years. I just traded for Moss, so maybe I’m a little bias.
