RB Justin Fargas: Raiders re-signed Fargas to an undisclosed contract
FFX: According to Rotoworld.com, the Oakland Raiders have re-signed RB Justin Fargas to an undisclosed contract. According to the post, Rotoworld believes that the Raiders rusher is probably looking at a three- to four-year deal. FANTASY: Even though Fargas rushed the ball 222 times for 1,009 yards (4.5 YPC) and 4TDs, we aren’t extremely high on the oft-injured rusher. He is 28 now and he is always banged up. Honestly, most of us here at FFX like Michael Bush more than Fargas. Why is no one talking about LaMont Jordan? Jordan was one of the best backs in football when the 2007 season kicked off, but back injuries slowed him down. Will he get another shot? If so, where? Talk about this on our FFX Forums!

Depending on where Jordan ends up this year (and I think he will be moved) he could turn out to be a very sneaky pick. He’s got lots of tread left on the tires with really only one full year of being a #1 in Oakland.

…as you mentioned already though, Smit, Fargas is injury prone, and I’m just not sold on him…

Which is why I had him thrown into this trade in our Expert League.
Yea, not a Fargas fan at all.

Well this puts a damper on M.Bush getting a crack at the starting job :(. This also means OAK will most prolly not pick up DMC if he was available.

It might actually be the best thing for M. Bush to be honest. If OAK didn’t sign Fargas, they would have brought in a bigger name and younger back. Fargas is no long-term answer, and I frankly am not all that confident he is the 2008 answer… M. Bush is in a great spot IMO. The best situation he could have asked for considering OAK would have done something.

You are correct Smitty. Looking back, my second statement sort of contradicts my first statement. As Bush owner, I hope OAK does not draft DMC, and he shows up healthy at various camps to challenge Fargas.

Well everyone’s initial reaction is going to be “bad”… but why? Fargas is far more fickle than a drafted a young Ray Rice, don’t you think?

RB Justin Fargas signs three-year deal worth $12 million
FFX: According to Rotoworld.com, the Oakland Raiders have re-signed RB Justin Fargas to a three-year worth what is thought to be worth $12 million, including $6 million guarantees. FANTASY: Again, Fargas had a great season in 2007 rushing the football 222 times for 1,009 (4.5 YPC) and 4TDs, and scored four TDs in 2007. This contract by no means locks him in as the Oakland starter, but it certainly gives him a huge advantage over Michael Bush. That said, while most are looking at this signing as a bad thing for Bush owners, we think it is ideal. If Oakland didn’t bring back Fargas, they would have addressed the position via free agency or through the draft, so they would have likely landed a younger RB with more long-term value. Fargas may start, but his injury history suggests he is going to be in and out of the line-up, thus giving Bush a shot to steal the starting gig away with solid play.

What about Dominic Rhodes?
Some may argue that, but I think he is only worthy of more than a RB2 when playing… will he stay healthy? Maybe, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Oakland believes in him obviously so that is a great sign if you own Fargas… I’m not saying he doesn’t have a shot at RB2 upside, my point is that a stud rookie that would have slipped to Oakland late at bargain value would be more of a disaster for Bush than this… this locking down of Fargas gives Bush a shot to steal the job away… Rhodes, who knows what they do with Rhodes, but you can bet they won’t be spending much more on another RB, which again means Bush is next in line and wont have to worry about a youthful competition with another incoming rook or free agent.

Thought I’d add his question to this thread…
Oakland is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma at this moment. bahubali is right…it does suggest they won’t take McFadden…but it could also mean they let McFadden break in easily along with Russell and Bush…how’s that for a backfield that would put people in the stands…Russell, McFadden & Bush ~ with Fargas taking the pressure off the rooks for as along as he lasts.
Pure speculation, but signing Fargas was about the last think I expected. Do they swing a deal with Dallas now?

Yea, you know… 6 mill guaranteed doesn’t rule that out, you’re right. They would be nuts not to grab him I think.

I think the very last thing you mentioned is where things get interesting. No way Parcells uses #1 on Darren, so do the Boys wise-up and work a deal with the Raiders? I know Al Davis loves physical freaks, but it would cost less for the Boys to deal with the Raiders, and with such a deep draft at a lot of positions, why wouldn’t the Raiders so that (aside from Davis not making a good move in like…what…15 years?)?
