Outside of FFX, which experts do you trust?

Hello guys,

On Saturday nights when you are finetuning your fantasy football rosters for the following day, outside of Fantasy Football Extreme, on which experts do you rely on for Bench/Start/Injuries advices and also for FF questions in general (ranking, waiver questions, trades, etc…)?

While this site (FFX) is my main site for information and advices, I sometime look for second opinions.  I wonder which free internet sources you guys use and trust for that?

To answer my own question:

While I usually read Fabiano on NFL.com, I give little weight to his advices.  Not sure why.  Maybe because he was advocating drafting QB early…

My two FF leagues are on yahoo.  I have never been in a league outside yahoo.  So I have always read the writers there.  I find Brad Evans funny.  He is often more emotionnal than rational but he is always entertaining.  But that doesn't mean I buy much of what he is saying.  On yahoo, Brandon Funston is probably the guy I trust the most.  He looks more cold headed.

Finally, I often pay a visit to Pro Football weekly.  I think Fitzmaurice is a reliable and serious writer.

What about you?

Thanks

Ben

Well, first off…..I'd use the term “experts” very loosely (no offense to anyone). There are a few sites I visit throughout the week & especially on Sunday mornings. I use FFX of course, fftoday.com, kffl.com, footballguys.com, nfl.com, espn.com, & i watch the fellas on yahoo.com at 12noon. So far i'd say my favs are here & fftoday.com. the others are ok, but just do not give you enough of the views that will make you really start to think. X & Tav will at least spit some thoughts & numbers out there for you to think about & will often provide proof as to why they think that way - the others just say start/bench & thats it. Even then, I take what they say & keep doing my own homework & hear others opinions - then I usually take it all in & make MY OWN opinion. If your looking for projecions on wk 1 - use FFX & fftoday - at least this gives you a good idea what to expect & they usually are fairly close to eachother on about 80% of the guys. I also put a ton of work into my teams (all 14 of them) & will often be trolling the help boards on Sunday mornings. Don't get me wrong, I am not an expert, nor do I claim to be. I am, however, a dedicated Fantasy Football owner/commish since 1994. I'd be more than happy to help out others if/when I can or direct you to a decent article I've found somewhere regarding your question(s). I think your best bet is to check here, fftoday, & both message boards for views/info/numbers.

best of luck!

I agree with BioHazard….xtreme and fftoday are where I mostly get all my info. I also check out ESPN and NFL.com for injury and news updates

I believe this is an important thread in setting the foundation for informed, involved xtremers this fantasy season. It is the discussion and the support of our expressed opinions that make these forums a valuable fantasy resource. Each of us has a piece of the puzzle, a unique viewpoint which added to what is shared here makes for better fantasy play and stronger fantasy teams.

I urge as many forum participants as possible to share the free sources they use. It causes each of us to think in different ways which allows for more creativity and clearer fantasy decisions making us stronger fantasy players. Besides, if even twenty percent of the readers take the time to research half the sites mentioned here, it would be surprising.

In addition to the sites mentioned by Dadadee & Biohazard I check in with any of the sites that FFX plays against in the expert leagues. Each of those guys are as passionate about fantasy football as we are and some offer free info and articles and others do not. They just don’t seem to update daily and to be honest, I don’t check their forums but good on them if theirs are as active 24/7, 365 as ours is.

One thing worth mentioning is that during the season I’ll be doing less explaining (if any) of the background for suggestions I offer as I found it time intensive last year to first research it, make note of it and then provide it. As most of you know, and as Smitty has stated (though I re-phrase), X and I provide what we do pro bono. Our participation isn’t included in any of the fees you may have wisely invested. ;) We are passionate about fantasy; have found a group of guys we like, trust and compete with; and FFX has become our “fantasy home.” I am confident that through this fantasy season and future seasons that new friends will be added to this Xtremer community we are collaboratively building. You have my word that any suggestions offered are based on the best info I have at the moment and that the match ups of OL/DL, RB/LB and WR/DB are taken into account long before I throw out a name ;)

Good thread.  One thing I'll add is that all the research in the world won't always work out, and many of the decisions you make will be gut calls.  For any given player or matchup you can often find as many “experts” favoring the player as opposing them - our job is to take both sides in, do our own research and make the best call we can with all that info.

As far as advice, I try to back up any decisions or opinions I have on players with at least some reasons why I am thinking that way, but as Tav says, with the sheer volume of questions in any given day, it's hard to fully explain ourselves with every one.  You can be assured that being in 10 leagues, I am wrestling with many of the same decisions everyone else is, and much of the advice I give is what I would do if I were faced with a similar choice.

Xtreme is my first port of call, especially for forum support, weekly projections and breaking news

FFtoday to read the forum.. don't trust their rankings

USAToday (Rotoworld) for articles

NFL for Fabiano - I like his sit/starts

Started to read fftoolbox (mainly cause I have to learn the punters for this season FF)

Not Berry on ESPN!!!!LOL

I always reference FFToolbox also for weekly rankings.  CBSsportsline rankings to me suck, and so do ESPN.  Last year I liked them for at least another view, but you can tell they don't pay close attention or change after things develop.  They just shuffle the yearly rankings and don't pay attention to matchups as much.

Yahoo has decent rankings.  I prefer the rankings that show the 4-5 people and who they rank and averages, not just generic pool rankings.

I hardly read any of the replys YET.  But I would like to say that the best (picks) are the ones you pick before the experts you are talking about do.
