2008 Fantasy Rookie Mock Draft
Round One | By Ballgame
This is a one-man fantasy rookie mock draft, as if drafting today in a 2008 dynasty rookie draft for the 2008 fantasy football season.
Updated Last: 6/10/08
- Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
This offense is going to be very good very soon, and even if the team struggles to win games in 2008, the team has made it clear that McFadden is going to touch the ball 15-20 times per game.
- Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers
A bit more disappointed than Smitty with Mendy going to PIT, but honestly he is in an ideal situation for the long-term. He could have a pretty good rookie season, but I really like his 2009 value.
- Matt Forte, RB, Bears
The door was already wide open for Forte, but Benson’s release has ripped the door off. Ranking Forte over Stewart is going to bring a lot of heat, but just because Forte is ranked higher, that doesn’t mean I’m not high on both. This class is that good.
- Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers
Based on talent, it’s hard to rank Stewart #4. It really is. But, like I just said, Stewart below Forte doesn’t mean Stewart isn’t really high on my rankings. Both are going to have a shot at being second-round backs very soon.
- Kevin Smith, RB, Team TBA
Should win the job by default. His heavy workload in college makes me hesitate, but he has a real shot to be a stud in DET.
- Ryan Torain, RB, Broncos
Who doesn’t see Torain starting by Week 7? Then Shanny will trade him and move on to the next running back next year. That’s how he works it now.
- Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
Exciting player and this was truly a great move for the Titans offense. However, I’m not sure how good Johnson will be as far as fantasy running backs go. Good upside, but don’t reach.
- Felix Jones, RB, Cowboys
I like Jones, but Barber is the starter. Barber is an aggressive runner and aggressive runners often get injured, so it will be interesting to see how good Jones is if ever asked to start in Barber’s place.
- Ray Rice, RB, Ravens
A must-own for McGahee owners this year with Cam Cameron running the offense in BAL. If McGahee suffered an injury, Rice would fill in like a top 15RB per start.
- Devin Thomas, WR, Redskins
I don’t love the fact that Campbell is the guy throwing him the football. A changing system, injuries - I have my concerns, but what a talent this WR is.
- Limas Sweed, WR, Steelers
Best situation for a WR in this draft, but Thomas has climbed above Sweed - for now. Pittsburgh had the best draft in my opinion, grabbing Mendenhall and Sweed. This offense is going to be hard to stop, and the core guys are so young. What a draft.
- Timothy Hightower, RB, Cardinals
Hightower at least has a shot at being the team’s future back. He is a big running back and put up good numbers in 2007, rushing for 1,924 (5.9 Avg.) with 23 total touchdowns. Word out of AZ is that Hightower is already in the mix for goal-line carries in ‘08.
