According to ESPN, Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey knows that he has to use RB Michael Turner a lot less in 2009. "You can't run 370 times a season," Mularkey said. "If Michael does that, he's going to wear out over time."
FFX Fantasy Takes:
Smitty: Turner had 376 carries for 1,699 yards and 17TDs last season. This year will be a little different, but I still think the stud will get right around 290-300 carries, which is plenty. Turner remains a top 3-5 overall pick in all leagues and formats in 2009 - Fantasy owners should expect 1,300+ rushing yards and double-digit scores.
X: Mularkey knows he needs to slow down the pace with Turner or risk shortening the Burner's tenure with the team. On top of that, Norwood is more than capable of picking up the slack and not missing a beat. Turner is definitely a top 5 player, but in PPR I'd slide him outside my top 5 by a few spots.
According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer, Bills WR Terrell Owens will "absolutely not" cause problems in Buffalo during his first season.
FFX Fantasy Takes:
Smitty: Owens will enter 2009 at the age of 35 - Most receivers can't play at an elite level at that age, but Owens is one of the most physically gifted receivers to ever play the game. If anyone can still crank out top 10-14 fantasy wide receiver numbers at 35, and even 36, it's Terrell Owens. Just be sure that you don't take him any earlier than the middle of the fourth-round come August. If his ADP rises and he starts going earlier than that, let someone else grab him, as other solid talent will naturally get pushed down into that fourth-round. He will make a fine fantasy WR2 in 2009, though, so attack the stud in your draft if he continues to be overlooked.
According to an AP news story, Brett Favre says he will have an answer for the Vikings regarding his availability to play by July 30 – the start of training camp. "There's two weeks left and I'm doing everything I can," Favre said. "I was down here Sunday morning working out. I'm trying to get everything to where I feel 100 percent when I go in. I can't go in any less."
FFX Fantasy Takes:
X: It pains me to have to post another story regarding Brett, but this one is significant if only for the fact he has given himself a deadline. I personally think it is a mistake for the Vikings to even be entertaining Favre, but this is what happens when you have a coach on the hot seat. If Childress is going to go out, he's going to do it with (Favre's) guns ablazin'.
North End Dirtdogs: Hopefully we will have some Favre-less NFL news for a couple of weeks. I just hope his signing doesn't disrupt the chemistry of a Super Bowl caliber team, especially those players who are loyal to the current QBs.
