Below are players that are On The Rise and On The Decline in the world of fantasy football. Note that the Monday Night game is still to come, but the players listed below have already played their week 8 games — It’s never too early to dig into the upcoming week, so let’s get right into the player values for week 9 looking forward.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-rise QB Drew Brees | QB NO

He’s back! Expect Brees and the Saints to only get better and better now that they have their game back.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-decline Frank Gore | RB SF

Gore is on the decline in a major way - take advantage! He isn’t getting a lot of touches, but the 49ers will look to rectify that next week. Go get him while he is being treated like second-round value. Not sure what to give up? Post your offers/thoughts on our Fantasy Football Forums.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-rise Ben Roethlisberger | QB PIT

Roethy is a beast — Don’t trade him right now, because you won’t get enough if you try to deal him. Roethy, like Derek Anderson, is playing like a top 5 talent and we advise that you ride both QBs until their legs fall off (verses trading them).

fantasy-football-players-on-the-decline LaMont Jordan | RB OAK

Jordan was AWFUL on Sunday, but we think he is very capable of rebounding. The key here is to only trade for him if you can steal him away at flex-type value, that way if he continues to play poorly, you won’t lose out on much. You may not be able to steal him away at that kind of price, but it is worth a shot consider many Jordan owners may have the "dump him quick" syndrome. Not sure what to give up? Post your offers/thoughts on our Fantasy Football Forums.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-rise Wes Welker | WR NE

Welker should be treated like a top 10WR from this point forward. Brady is on fire and it isn’t going to slow down. If you have Welker, don’t deal him! He is almost a lock for 70-80 yards and a score on a weekly basis.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-decline Marshawn Lynch | RB BUF

We have had Lynch on our "To Get" List for the last couple of weeks — He didn’t bust out this week (80 yards rushing and no scores) like we had hoped, but at least this gives crafty fantasy owners another week to try and acquire the runner before he has that bit 2TD-game. Buy Lynch at the cost of an every week flex-option and you might end up with a solid RB2 looking forward.

fantasy-football-players-on-the-rise Marques Colston | WR NO

Colston caught eight passes for 85 yards and three touchdowns in Week 8 - Brees and gang are back in action, so don’t consider trading Brees or Colston if you have them (well, unless of course someone overpays).

fantasy-football-players-on-the-decline Clinton Portis | RB WAS

We advised everyone to trade Portis last week — We hope you listened. You still may be able to trade him if you create a package deal, but he just isn’t getting the carries and he looks soft running the football. He also feels like a walking injury, as he limps to the sideline at some point during almost every game (it was his hand this week). Deal him if you haven’t already, just make sure you get enough, as you’d be better off keeping him than trading him away for an Ernest Graham-type. It isn’t that we don’t like Graham, but you should be able to do a lot better than that if you get creative. Not sure what to give up? Post your offers/thoughts on our Fantasy Football Forums.

A Few Waiver Wire Grabs For Week 9

  1. RB Adimchinobe Echemandu - The runner rushed for 62 yards on 10 carries and caught 2 passes for 11 yards in a Week 8 against the Chargers. Echemandu, let’s call him Echem, looks like a nice grab this week. It is unknown how much the Texans plan to use him, but it’s always a good idea to grab any emerging free agent RB.
  2. QB Rex Grossman - Griese looked awful on Sunday, so deep fantasy leaguers may want to consider grabbing Grossman off the waiver wire. If you are rich at the quarterback position and you’re in a small league, there is no need to grab such a passer, but if you are hurting bad at QB, Grossman might just get in there in the coming weeks (if not this week). Griese is always getting banged up, so it shouldn’t be long before Rex is thrown back in there by default. He usually responds when the pressure is off, so if he replaces Griese at some point due to injury (and we smell that coming), the pressure would certainly be delimitated. Just something to think about for those struggling at the position.
Have a great Monday night!
